this is working fine still i like the lightest weight why i bought it and it lights up and it works fine not just for kids its my perfect light finder now

This metal detector is pretty easy to handle and find things with. Found quite a few things at my parents house. Don't forget about the batteries though! It's very nice for my first metal detector.

I just felt that I need to share this story and I am sure many won't believe it. I should have asked my son what lottery numbers to pick yesterday. His RM Ricomax metal detector had just been delivered and I helped him assemble it and set it to the right settings. I was upstairs working and saw him out my window digging in a hole in my front yard. He was at it for about 20 minutes since the generic carrot pinpointer I have is not super precise. Next thing I know he yells out, "I found a ring! I found a gold ring!". Of course I thought that their was no way. I go downstairs and he comes running in the house with a dirty gold ring. I still didn't believe it and figured it was brass or junk but at a closer look it had a 24k marking on it. My jaw hit the floor. It weighed in at about 6g. I just wish I would have video recorded his first dig as it would have been awesome to get find and that reaction on video. I still can't believe it and he was on cloud 9 and is still there. Anyway, I feel like this story speaks for itself as a review. The RM Ricomax is light and easy to use. It is nice that it also has a pinpoint feature built in to help narrow down a find. I would recommend it to anyone.

At the end of the day, you can spend anywhere between $100 to $1500 on a metal detector. Those high-end models would be worth it if I were doing this as a serious hobby. For me, I just bought it for two purposes. I needed to find a property marker stake buried under asphalt. And I wanted to make sure there were no nails left in the yard after working on my fence. It accomplished both with no issues. In fact, it found some old metal junk that I suspect has been buried in yard for decades. This is part of the problem though. An expensive machine would give you much greater details about what kind of metal you are looking at and more precisely where it is. This is really quite simpler. It will just tell you that there is metal down there somewhere. It is slightly adjustable in that area and I suspect with some practice, I could get better at learning what it is telling me. That said, I bought it for limited use and it met my needs. If you are looking to start a new hobby, this will either make you want to pick up metal detecting and get a better one, or it will convince you you don't really want to and at least you didn't spend much. For those of us just needing one for household usage, it works perfect.

This was my second attempt at a metal detector. The first was one from a brick n mortar store which ended up as a return, and thus landed me on Amazon looking at reviews and trying to make an informed decision. Searching through the multitude of metal detectors, the conflicting reviews (on all of them) made it difficult. Please know that there is a science behind metal detecting, based on your settings, and what type of metal the device is actually detecting, so it's important to understand how to adjust the settings and practice with coins and other metal that you find around your house before going out to the field... this is important.
Once you practice with the different metals and settings, you will learn the "personality" of your detector which you apply directly to your success in the field.
The directions for this device were straight forward and easy to follow. Putting the device together was a breeze, but note: it requires 2 9 volt batteries to function, so make sure you have them on hand.
There was a slight discrepancy in the directions which lead to my earlier comment about the personality of the the machine.... I noticed on my machine that the disc setting to ignore iron the disc knob had to be @ 1:00 not 11:00, nickel was 2:00 not 12:00, zinc 4:00. Once I figured this out the device became a much easier to operate.
The device was a little heavy for a 6 year old long and cumbersome - my eight year old however could use it. But quite honestly they had more fun digging in the dirt hunting the treasure detected by the machine.
We took it camping with us last weekend, the picture shows some of the junk and not so junk we found in the soil around the campsite.
It's certainly added an element of adventure to our trip as it seemed like we are on a treasure hunt.
Maybe it was buried in the description, (pun intended) but the item also comes with a little steel army like shovel that you put together, it certainly aided in the digging process of looking for what was beneath the soil.
Honestly I was on the fence on either getting this one or the popular "science magazine" version which was about 2xs the $$. I'm glad I chose this one. We couldn't be happier with the purchase.
