A Legit Paddle

I'm only a very occasional recreational player, with limited knowledge of all the intricacies of table tennis gear. This paddle is clearly miles above the dimpled board that your table likely came with. It has great, sticky, smooth rubber with identical padding on both sides. The biggest surprise to me was the weight. Again, I've played mostly with junk paddles (which are light) and the occasional slightly upgraded paddle (still light). This paddle is noticeably heavier than any other I've used. It will take some getting used to I'm sure.

I just got this paddle yesterday, and it is already my new favorite. It is fast, controllable, and consistent. I can not wait to dominate my friends with this bad boy.

The closest I have to compare the "Spin Mystic" rubber to is probably the old Mark V standard, which is still a bit different. This CounterStrike rubber isn't as grippy as the Mark V and the foam isn't as soft, so it doesn't spin as much as the Mark V and it's a bit faster. The Mark V is rated at 80 spin and 80 speed but grips the ball better. I'm not sure who rated the CounterStrike rubber. This is 2mm foam.
The rubber I'm presently using the most is Hurricane 8 Medium which is much more spinny (97 spin). The CSTT is way less grippy than this even though it's rated only 4 points less.
With any table tennis rubber, to keep the spin up, you have to keep the surface clean and use surface protectors when storing (stops oxidation). An after use rubber cleaner is recommended. It comes with 2 really thin protectors that will work as long as they last which won't be long after taking them off and on a few times.
The paddle blade has 5 layers of wood and 2 of carbon should give this a higher speed rating. This blade comes only with a slightly flared handle and no wrap. It feels a bit like my Nittaku Carbon blade but a bit more offensive. It's light and the flare is comfortable although I mainly use straight handles.
I can't tell how thick the carbon fiber is but it's there. There are 200 grams per meter squared fiber which really gives a kick and 100g/m2 fiber which gives good control on a defensive blade. This feels like it's on the lower end but gives a larger sweet spot.
I'd give it the total blade an ALL+ or OFF- rating. Changing the rubber could push that up or down.
Overall, this is an inexpensive way to step up into the world of Pro table tennis paddles. You can easily spend $200+ on a blade and 2 sheets of rubber, so this is a step into that arena without the cost. If the rubber eventually detaches or wears out (loses stickiness or tears), do a search for "table tennis" and you can find more replacement rubber with glues and cleaners than you ever knew existed. This paddle will give you the base (the blade) to continue into more refined choices.
The blade with 2 sheets of rubber weighs 187grams. I didn't take the rubber off to weigh the blade by itself as I wanted to try this setup a bit more.
I would give the blade 5 stars as it's easily worth the price by itself. The rubber maybe 3 stars. The edge guard tape is a nice touch.
