My kids love them so far (they're 6 and 9). This is their first portable gaming system so they don't have anything to compare it to. After about 4 uses the battery life seems typical (a couple of hours worth of play) but I haven't really timed it. I just have them put it on the charger when they're done so they're ready to go when they want to play again. Considering the price, I am happy with the purchase.
One negative is the whole back panel comes off in order to replace batteries. If I could choose, the battery compartment would have a smaller opening instead of risking breaking the whole panel. Not a big deal if your careful, but worth noting.

Remember when childhood used to be childhood? No internet, no violent videogames, just sit and enjoy. If these are your priorities (they are mine) then this is a good product. Yes, some games are repeated and many, many are not exactly like the original version. I'm old enough to know that. Also the joystick could be improved. And the sounds are annoying, like in a Chinese baby's game. But you can lower the volume.
Beware that if you want to connect it to a TV you might need to buy an adaptor for the super old switch the game comes with.

I gave this to my grandson for Christmas and it brought a smile to his face. He's only 8 so all the games were new to him. He had the thing turned on just a going with it before I could begin to read how to do anything with it.
