I bought this for an 8 year old. I wasn't ready to invest in the more expensive name brand gaming models due to his age, so I wanted to see how responsible he could be with it. The number of games on it keeps him happy. I have had the navigation button pop off fairly easily, but otherwise it has been a hit with my son. I haven't tried hooking it up to a tv since it was mostly to be used in the car, etc. as a distraction device.

Remember when childhood used to be childhood? No internet, no violent videogames, just sit and enjoy. If these are your priorities (they are mine) then this is a good product. Yes, some games are repeated and many, many are not exactly like the original version. I'm old enough to know that. Also the joystick could be improved. And the sounds are annoying, like in a Chinese baby's game. But you can lower the volume.
Beware that if you want to connect it to a TV you might need to buy an adaptor for the super old switch the game comes with.

How to save within a game

The instructions for how to save within a game are a bit confusing. Try this:
While the game is running (once you're done with a game, you can't save):
1. push the large lit button on the bottom of the console. It has an "M" on it.
2. scroll down with the controller on the left to "save"
3. press the circular button to the extreme right. It has a broken circle on it.
To start play at the "save" point:
1.push the large lit button on the bottom of the console again
2. scroll down to "load".
3.press the circular button to the extreme right. It has a broken circle on it.
If you turn the game off, it will remember your "save" location.
