Much improved from what we wore

I'm writing this review as both a parent, former player and youth ice hockey coach of five years. The neck guards young players have today are leaps and bounds beyond what I wore as a player in the '90's. This is much thinner, more comfortable and lighter, yet provides stronger protection against cuts and realistically that is the true purpose of a a neck guard.
While they are not required in most leagues I recommend them for all players.

This one covers the neck properly and has a very flexible, soft part for under the chin. The rest I tried were just way too wide, over an inch wider and there was absolutely no way my mini might was going to wear them. This is really the best fit from IP to bantams.
Well made, form fitting, lacks any plastic but ample velcro for growing and worth the money.

Well made, although I was shocked there was ZERO plastic at all. Basically this is a very soft neck guard. If you want something more solid rather than a soft exterior, this is probably not the one. I was expecting at least a thin piece of plastic to stop the skate if it came to that but there is only this pad made of fabric. Fits my 8 year old daughter who is 52" tall perfectly with room to grow. In fact it fits a 17" man's neck very tightly of course. This will last you many years of hockey playing, even until they are in their mid teens.

Disclaimer; I was looking for a more "padded" neckguard, something similar to a modern "collar" gorget. This is not that item.
The picture was a little misleading to me, looking at the actual product and then the item picture, it now makes more sense. It's made from some kevlar and other "slash proof" material, but will not protect you from impacts.
