I purchased 2 of the 1" valves to create a shutoff for a pre-water softener spin down filter for my residential water supply. The versions I purchased have a male side and a female side. The male sides are connected to flexible pipe that have female connections with rubber washers. Those connections do not leak. I still used a couple wraps of the more expensive grey Teflon tape and did tighten them very well.
The female sides were more of a challenge to stop leaking connections. I had to use MANY wraps of Teflon tape and had to reassemble multiple times after leak testing. On the last effort, there was still a leak of about a drop every 15 mins or so. I kept an eye on it for a few days, and as of now all leaking has completely stopped.
The valves are heavy duty and the workmanship appears acceptable. To open/close requires some effort, but not anything unusual.
I can now clean out my pre filter easily without having to shutoff the main. I also now have an easily accessible shutoff for the water entering my house only.
