- •The clutch fork works with the connecting clutch linkage to engage and disengage the clutch in manual transmissions. This allows you to shift while driving. When you depress the clutch pedal, the clutch linkage engages the clutch fork to move the release bearing. When the bearing contacts the pressure plate's release levers, it starts to rotate with the pressure plate assembly. Once it has fully engaged the release levers, the pressure plate disengages from the flywheel.
