Seems very solid. Definitely helps me see if I haven't prepared the Puck correctly. Helps you dial in for the best Espresso.
It just a bit loose under my Breville Express Impress grinder, so an annoying small amount of the grinds always fall out around the top lip when the machine is grinding into the basket. If I manually hold it up tight it doesn't happen though.
It does however fit FINE in the group head. The handle CAN get loose when repeatedly knocking out the used Pucks. A little thread seal or glue would work.
So, some caveats, but overall happy. I'm NOT a Espresso aficiónado though 😊

Might be mental, but coffee taste better after I started using this naked portafilter - used spouted double before. Bought it for Breville and it works really well, fit perfectly and good quality.

People buy the Breville Barista Express because they want to make espresso at home. Not just that, though. They want control over the process. The grinder, the pressure gauge, the programming and timing features, and even unpressurized portafilter baskets. There's one problem, though. After all the tweaks, adjustments, and changes to get it dialed in for a new or different bean, you can't see the extraction process.

This bottomless portafilter fixes that issue. Being able to see the extraction gives you insight into the grind, the tamp, the pressure, and more. It's been a valuable purchase to accompany my BES870XL. It's a high quality piece with a good weight and durability. The wood handle is long enough to get good leverage when inserting and removing. The nature of the naked portafilter allows for easier, faster, and more thorough cleaning and resetting between shots.

Finally, and most importantly, pulling shots just looks cooler when you can watch the coffee flow from the bottom of the basket :)

I highly recommend owners of a 54 mm brew head espresso machine purchase this from Crema Coffee Products.

I don't know why some of the other reviewers say bad things about this portafilter. This is the third Crema product I've purchased and they're all top notch. The metal section does come unscrewed, but who in their right mind is applying torque to the portafilter when they remove it?? The wood is also nice quality and finished; it's not some raw, unfinished cheap wood. I was a carpenter when I was a kid and I know my wood.

True it isn't as weighty as the standard Breville, but you'll get used to it!

There is nothing wrong with the design in terms of the pour. If you're getting spray or whatever, that's on you, your beans, grind, or tamping technique. It's not for the novice.

The pour is cool. Does it impact the flavor? Maybe, too soon to say, probably not. Better crema? Maybe, hard to say, not sure yet, but maybe that has some impact on taste in the end. But don't be swayed by reviews by those who don't know how to grind and tamp.
