This paint strainer is sized to fit a 5-gallon bucket, but works with smaller containers as well. I strained into both a 2-gallon bucket and 1-gallon can. Just had to put the smaller container inside a 5-gallon bucket and pour near the center of the strainer.
This product is an example of a simple idea that works well.

After using this for a few weeks, I've decided to downgrade my rating from 5 to 4 stars. This strainer works really well for paint that's been thinned for spraying. But the mesh is too fine for thick latex paint straight out of the can. I tried staining ¾ gallon of used latex paint and it took forever. I was able to speed thing up a bit by stirring the paint on the strainer as it's being strained, but it still took a while. I still think this is a good product, but it would be nice if the manufacturer made a version with larger mesh designed specifically for thick latex paint.
