I run an international charitable organization working in developing nations across multiple languages. The Timekettle WT2 Edge/W3 Translator is very helpful in my work. The device allows me to communicate at a fundamental level with my staff and the locals without hiring a human translator as a go between. Not having a 3rd human allows me to have true 1-on-1 conversations.

The languages I am working with are "online only" requiring an internet connection. Internet is not an issue in the cities and becomes more of a challenge as I travel to smaller village locations. As I'm working with less popular languages, local dialects, accents, rate of speech, education, grammatical structure, etc. are bigger factors influencing translation accuracy. I find that patience and commitment to communication is essential on both sides of the conversation to achieve success. Timekettle works and I recommend it!

This is my first experience with an in-ear translator and the experience has been positive so far. I have used it to converse with coworkers from Mexico, Russia, France (oh yeah, really necessary!) and India. This gizmo can even recognize the lovely Indian accent and speak back to you in that accent!

To use the simultaneous translation mode "” of course, even a UN top translator cannot do pure simultaneous translation due to language semantic and grammatical differences not to mention the difficulties with idioms "” you give one of the earbuds to the other party and wear the other one yourself. Your iPhone is not needed for picking up the speech but acts as the neural brain for the translation work. This may also explain why they decided not to include regular earphone functions as, alas, one of your buds will probably spend more time in other people's ears, and not everyone cleans their ears regularly like you do. This mode is my favorite, but you need to be patient with the slight delays in translation; the speed seems to spend mostly on the speed of your Internet connection. I haven't tried the offline mode yet even though I bought that version.

The listening mode is good for watching foreign movies. It uses your iPhone's mic to pick up the sound and then extract speech and translate. Depending on the audio quality of your TV or amplifier, the results can be inconsistent, but it works most of the time for me (I play videos mostly on my 16 inch MacBook Pro with its awesome speakers). It's lots of fun.

A mode called touch mode works like a pair of walkie talkies: you give one bud to the other person, then each of you taps the bud (like on the original AirPod) before speaking. You don't hold the bud's side when you speak, just tap and speak. This mode is great when you are in a noisy environment so the system knows when and who's talking.

There's one speaker mode where you wear the bud(s) while the other person uses your iPhone running the TimeKettle app. This saves you from sharing your bud with someone who doesn't wash often"¦

As long as you have a strong Internet connection or have downloaded the offline content, and have a little patience, this gizmo works pretty well. It even works in noisy restaurants and bars for me. And yes, I set my end to Indian English. That alone is worth the price!

I purchased this translator for my relocation to Costa Rica. It is important that you put it on the proper mode so that it knows exactly what you are wanting to translate and what noise to filter out or listen to. I have used this to exchange conversation with my hosts and friends when we are both struggling with one another's languages to have much more fluid conversation. It has some lag time when long paragraphs are spoke, so, be mindful of the rate of your speech. It is helping me learn the language as well as I can not only see what the translation is on the screen as I listen to them, but also then understand what they are saying. Allowing me to put the words together with their spelling for better pronunciation and immediate response in my own language. Improvements are always being made.

Absolutely enjoyed having these on our trip to the Netherlands. That said I had to learn how best to use them based on accuracy and variety of speakers. First, the accuracy, using them for just listening I found that it was just a bit better than 50/50, with some late text revisions from the 'live' text translation bringing it to around 70%. But that latency made it hard to maintain a good conversational engagement without that aid. Second, when more than one person was talking it took time to learn how to listen/read and divide a conversation so that you got a sense of the context of the conversation. Third, and this is a bit of a gripe, only using the mic from the phone and only being able to use the software when the earbuds were active was annoying to the point that I used another software just for text translations that were faster to start for those impromptu dialogs that came up. I can see why the separate speaker plugin for the phone would be helpful but even the need of using it is slower than other translation apps. That said, the text translation when being able to be prepped and ready to use and not needing to be contribution to the conversation was very useful. Now for all the good stuff, It was so cool being able to hear and moderately understand several languages when you figured out which ones you were listening to. I will hope this continues to improve and I will continue to use it for my international travels.

It is a good earphone in case of emergency. .
1. Headphones are easy to fall off. I don't have this with other headphones.
2.Translation is very good and recognition is very accurate in places with good network. But in offline mode, it is a mess, and the recognition is completely inaccurate.* English to Chinese translation
3.If both parties talk together, the earphone will talk by itself, because it can recognize that I am talking and translate it when I am not talking. I don't know if it's the product.
4.Also, the application has been running in the background of the mobile phone, but the headset often disconnects itself and then reconnects * often happens! !
5.Where there is a network, it is generally good, if the accuracy of offline translation can be improved. Optimizing the connection can keep it working all the time. .* One thing to add is that the mobile phone may not work under the condition of screen display, but it will work normally after unlocking, so it is necessary to prepare a mobile charging treasure. .
