I did about 1000 sq ft of lawn with dense compacted clay. Tough going and I had to jump with full weight on this tool a lot of the time to push in to full depth. It is solid with good sturdy stainless plug cutters and a strong frame. The handles are fairly thin foam rubber and I would have expected a bit better set of grips for the money.

Other than the handle grips it's a very practical garden tool and functions as describes by the seller. I'd rate it a "5" had the grips been more durable.

This is a great tool for a small yard and for people that love to work outdoors. I waited after a big rain to use it and worked great. It took me a few hours and three different days to give my feet and back a break but the tool did it's job.

I have a small yard with a playground structure, a rental would be too cumbersome to use. I watched tons of YouTube reviews and bought this lawn aerator. I took several steps: 1. Sprayed weed killer and waited for weeds to die. 2. Cut grass short (we usually keep it long). 3. Water the grass all day. It worked pretty good, I got a good workout. I don't weigh that much, so I wore a hiking backpack to add 30 pounds to me. There were some areas where it was too thatchy with the grass roots, but I did okay.
I agree with other reviewers, you need to have a maintained yard to actually use this device. If the ground is too compacted, you're better off renting an aerator from the local hardware store.
