CAUTION #1: This year's H&R Block software originally did not download some financial institution(s) it did last year. Institutions may have initiated change over security concerns. They were ill-timed and perhaps not even tested. Another competitor reportedly had issues initially as well, and apparently overcame them.
UPDATE (03/27/2022): Check for software updates. H&R Block recently added financial institutions. This remains my preferred software for federal taxes as it has for years.

CAUTION #2: This reseller seems to allow 30 days for a refund - half the time of 60 days H&R Block shows on their web site which reads:
"If you are dissatisfied with the H&R Block tax preparation software for any reason before you file your return, H&R Block will refund the full purchase price you paid H&R Block or its authorized reseller for the software, exclusive of shipping and handling charges, taxes, and less any rebate you receive on the software.

You must notify H&R Block of your dissatisfaction and the reason for your dissatisfaction with the software within sixty (60) days following your initial purchase of the software, and you must mail the original media or the original UPC code from the box and a copy of your original store receipt to H&R Block, postage prepaid, to this address: H&R Block Money-back Guarantee, P.O. Box 32110, Kansas City, MO 64171"

Since H&R Blocks software is downloaded, how's one to mail original media or a UPC code from a box that no longer exists?

Hopefully you don't need to manually input financial data. Choices could be: switch tax software and/or switch financial institutions. I negated my initial & only bad Amazon review as my expectations & needs were met over time. Both price & software download exceeded my expectations.

With tax time you have no choice, so we do our taxes. I've used TaxCut for years up until I retired. Now, if I'm lucky, my taxes will be simple enough to do "by brain". if not, I'll but another Tax disc,

I have been using H&R Block software for several years and am happy with it. E-file of federal and import of documents (W-2s , etc.) is very convenient. State e-filing costs money for my state, so I use the software to prepare my paper. The summary instructions for paper filing for both federal and state are helpful.

Word of warning: If you want to prepare state returns from the software make sure you get the federal + state version of the software. I made the mistake of getting the federal only this year. I didn't realize this until after the software was not eligible for return. I purchased the full state + federal version on Amazon for about $10 less than what H&R Block wanted for the state upgrade.

I have used H&R BLOCK Tax software for many years and it is simple to use and gets you the maximum refunds. It will calculate various deductions and taxable income and Social Security work sheets. It takes you step by step through the current year tax structure and prints out the correct Return for you.

Once you load it on your computer, you need to perform an UPDATE in order to get the latest forms. Currently, there is a problem on the IRS Site dealing with the forms on Social Security, but this should be corrected on the Feb 3rd update.
I highly recommend H& R Block Software for individuals to do their own taxes.

It's been so long since I used another product I can't compare this to anything else.

I find the interface a little bit odd, but perfectly usable.

I'd like some extra information, like a graphical display showing the tax brackets and where I am, but that's likely due to my math and logic profession.

H&R Block's annual offer may have been for the Premium edition or Deluxe+State. They don't have a state program for New Hampshire. It's a trivial form and most people never need to file.

If you just want to get tax season behind you, but don't want to pay someone to nag you for all the documents a tax return needs, this works fine.
