So, I got her a slew of used books, a la Art Wolfe, Nat. Geo., etc.
of which several are hand friendly 7" x 7" 2# jobbers, but some
are over 10" x 10" 4-5# +.
The difference between a big coffee table book, or a paperback.
SO, looking for something for her to hold them open on a table
in front of her, I got these. The arms that hold the pages open
may be just right to hold the book open but creates a tearing
hazard if the book isn't handles delicately. Just saying.
Otherwise as a display item, these wire jobbers ROCK.

I only had my paperback books and the textbook stand worked. Hardcover books would be best, they don't bend and slip out like the soft paperback books do.
Overall though, the textbook stand worked great and served it purpose.

I bought these stands for my father, who just started taking an art class. He was painting an owl from a book and commented to me that he was having difficulty holding the book open to the page while it was on the table next to his work. I thought a little stand like this would work because it's lightweight, folds flat and is therefore easily portable for him to take to his class. It was a big hit.
Open back stand not good for magazines.
