If you are looking for a full size handheld and not a kid size HT this is the radio. This radio has a 3 to 5 day battery. Wide RX. It's a Great field radio. We use these on our ranch. All family is FCC Amateurs. As far as I have found it's not field programmable for repeater use but any simplex channel is not
an issue. It has good TX audio. Sounds good while transmitting to a kenwood base. It would be awesome if it was field programmable for repeaters.

This isn't the be end all, be all of radios but it will work for beginners. Easy to program and powerful enough to reach anywhere you would need it to. Good customer service. It initially shipped with a bad charger, but they sent me a new one free of charge.

This radio is exactly what I needed. I have 3 other Boefung radios and this one is one of the best. I would recommend this radio for your kit. Programs like the UV-5R so it is easy to use. I did use my Boefung program and just programmed it in a matter of seconds. Well worth the price..

I chose this radio because of the battery size, waterproof, TX power, antenna length, protective sleeve, programming & charging cable options. The speaker sound is good and strong. For programming, I downloaded CHIRP-Next to my PC. After some good tutorials in YT, I was able to program my radio using the "BF-F8HP" setting and clone my 2nd radio. So, two identical clones, and they work great! I am impressed with how far radios have come, and this AR-152 is excellent. Now, if you want the smallest radio, to fit inside a purse or a pocket, then a UV-5R with small battery is more suitable.

Over all"¦at least so far, the radio has preformed as advertised. Exception is output, not quite 8 watts. Have added SMA to BNC connectors to enable multiple antenna use. On arrival, the wall wart charger didn't work and the "tactical" antenna was missing a part. Still waiting on replacement of those items. It does have a learning curve, but constantly using the gear takes care of that issues. I would never give a 5 star"¦why??? It's not a Harris but I like it. Guess it a love hate relationship for the user. By it for the right reason"¦fills my usage requirements. Good luck and enjoy
