The title said cast iron, it is NOT cast iron, it is steel! Last ones I bought didn't last 2 months of using they collapsed... time will tell if this holds up under use.

This thing is heavy and very solid. The ember grate works for larger embers once they break into quarter sized they start falling through. I have had a dozen fires in it so far and it shows no signs of warping or cracking. Wiped it down after the 6th fire and it looked brand new. Ran a blazing fire on it for 12 hours and still looks great. Size is good for home cut larger logs. The raised height is perfect for shoving paper underneath to ignite a fire.

I use my fireplace to also burn sticks from my yard. The nice "grate layer" is great for keeping my stick embers from falling too quickly and they almost burn faster than I'd like because of the air circulation.
