Good rower, garbage monitor

As other reviews have said, the instructions are useless and the video is a must. The LCD monitor broke on the second use. It turns on, but no longer tracks anything. The timer counts for like 6 seconds and then stops. None of the other numbers update.
Solid, well built rower

Yes, it ships in two separate packages. One has the tub, display, foot rest and seat. The other will contain the rails. Tracking was wonky for me on the second package but it arrived two days after I received the first package.
Assembly is pretty basic, if you have even minimal mechanical skills you can totally put this together in about an hour. Use the video on YT supplied by the company for help because the written instructions are non existent.
Using the machine I found very easy with nice fluid motions, smooth tracking, and steady resistance. My biggest complaint is the complete absence of any instructions for the use of the onboard computer to track your spm, times, and distance.
Fix the lack of instructions and this is a five star buy. Overall it's a great machine at a great price point. Well built, solid wood construction, with plenty of room for my 6'3" frame. Definitely a welcome addition to our home gym.

Very Good Rower!

The Positives: Rower looks great. Great materials. Rowing is smooth. Folds up nice. Came with a phone holder and dust cover. Cheaper than similar rowers but appears to have same quality. I say appears because I've had it for a couple weeks now so I have to see condition after a year. It feels like it will be fine for many years. The Negative: build instructions are in German. They emailed me a video of how to put it together but it did not correspond to the picture flow of the German instructions. The parts list didn't match what I received. Some things I did receive that wasn't listed and vice versa. There were quite a few nuts, bolts and washers left over after I finished putting it together. I went through the video and book over and over and could not find where they went. I guess they just send extra. Bottom line if they included English instruction book they would have gotten 5 stars. Putting it together is a real pain but once you get through that you have a great rower at at great price.
Beautiful, smooth operation, terrible instructions

This would have been a 5 star review except for the horrendous instructions mentioned by others. I had to watch multiple videos, and still had to make some assumptions on assembly. This isn't a fun feeling on a large purchase that needs to hold up to a lot of physical stress. I think I figured everything out, and it wasn't all that hard once I worked it out.
That being out of the way, I am very pleased with the rower given the price point. I use a professional rower at the gym and was worried this would feel inferior. It really doesn't. I did a 20 minute workout and the machine was smooth and offered a similar experience to the gym. I'm a 6' 230 lb person for reference.
This also looks fantastic. I don't have a workout space so it's in my den and it doesn't look awkwardly out of place folded up in the corner. Very simple to unfold and use.
Two other minor things to know: The cellphone holder wobbles on the bendy arm like crazy, so don't expect to watch your favorite show. Second, for me personally, the handlebar is too small. I'm used to a wider grip.

Great lower-cost water rower

After starting with a magnetic rowing machine, I decided to switch to a water version. The magnetic machines, while quiet, simple can't provide the resistance needed for me (bigger build, been working out for 15+ years) to get an adequate workout. While air rowers are great, I also want to watch TV while a row, so water was the way to go.
This rower has been great so far. Setup isn't bad, although the directions are awful. You basically get two sets of instructions and have to switch between the two to properly assemble the machine. I ended up with a few extra parts, and had to switch a few screws as I went along and realized I had mis-installed things. It is very sturdy and doesn't wobble when extended/locked and in use. The rubber feet are nice to keep it elevated, although it does tend to slide as I use the machine (again, a 200lb man on a tile floor). This also happened with my magnetic rower and can be fixed by putting a yoga mat, grip material, or similar under the feet.
Initially I experienced a problem with the handle/cable retracting while I rowed. It was smooth on the pull portion of the row, but as I let the handle/cable rewind it was VERY choppy (would alternate between winding quickly then slowly, causing intermittent slack on the cable) and took a lot away from the rowing experience. I contacted Trunk who immediately sent me a video on how to re-wrap the cables to fix it. As far as I can tell the re-wrapped cables had the same setup as the original setup but I did the fix anyway. They even offered to send me replacement parts if I wasn't able to resolve the issue. However, the problem slowly disappeared, which leads me to believe it was more an issue with the machine "breaking-in".
To lower maintenance issues and improve use, I:
- Added water purification tablets to prevent algae (same ones you can by to make water safe to drink)
- Added an additional 2" thick foam seat cushion to help my bum
- Added neoprene grips to the handle to improve feel and absorb some sweat
Pros:
- Looks great! I get tons of comments, especially with the water died blue
- Collapsible
- Great Trunk customer service
- Water provides variable resistance depending on how hard/fast you row
Cons:
- Handle/cable retraction is handled by a bungie cord underneath the machine instead of a spring. I'm concerned this cord will slowly wear out, which would render the machine useless
- There's a squeaking noise as I move forward at the end of each row. I believe this is the footplates rubbing, as tightening those screws fixes the issue. It keeps coming back, so I'm having to re-tighten those screws a lot.
- Needs grips on the handle. The wood looks great but doesn't feel that way after a while
- The footplates don't hold my heels in very well. They DO allow the heel to lift, which is how it should be, but I have to reset my heels every few minutes. To make it better I set my footplates to be extra short and tighten the hell out of the foot straps
- The footplates damage the wood underneath the heel part of the plate, leaving little worn half-moons. Make sure you pick a good length to start as if you go to a shorter length the marks will be visible.
Despite the several cons listed (which are largely minimal) I love this machine, and am very happy with my purchase.
