Exactly what I want in a contemporary GCN controller.
Nick Swenson✓ Verified PurchaseNovember 17, 2023
Very solid controller with contemporary improvements to the Gamecube layout. I primarily use this controller for playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, and Gamecube games via Dolphin emulator (PC).

IMPORTANT for BLUETOOTH:
To connect to PC via Bluetooth, on your PC (tested on Windows 10) navigate to Settings --> Bluetooth & Other Devices.
Select 'Add Bluetooth or other device".
Hold Home to put the controller in search mode as an Xbox controller. [OR] press Home + X to put it in search mode as a Nintendo Pro Controller to take advantage of gyro and other Switch configurations.

- Works on Nintendo Switch and Steam out of the box.
- Wired and wireless communication. (Wireless requires separate Bluetooth dongle for PC.)
- Includes all additional buttons (L3, R3, L, and -).
- C-Stick has a cap/wider lip for better camera control.
- D-Pad is slightly bigger and more responsive and comfortable to press with less resistance.

- Center buttons have a slightly different layout than pictured (at the time of purchase).

- Documentation needs MUCH improvement. I had to figure out a lot of functionality myself.
- Connectivity lights are placed below the center buttons and are hidden when looking straight at the controller. A huge plus for me since I don't like being distracted by them while playing in the dark.
- Shoulder buttons ZR/ZL are digital and are easier to press but do not support analog variation necessary for some games (Super Mario Sunshine). Shielding is faster/easier in Smash Bros.
- Material is matte and doesn't become as slick with sweat nearly as easily.
- Rumble works well. Can press Turbo + [+] and [-] to adjust rumble strength.
- Battery life is long, lasted me the whole week of regular play and charges fast.
- Allegedly includes gyro/motion controls. Have not yet tested this feature out as it's not a common feature outside Splatoon 2 and DOOM (2016).

Cons/Concerns:
- First controller I received, the ZR button didn't always register. I was able to return and replace it quickly and easily. Took 2 days to get to me. Second controller had no issues.
- Controller is recognized as an XBOX 360 controller on Steam which means it cannot utilize gyro. I don't know a work around for this yet. This seems to be a problem exclusively with a wired connection though I'm unable to test with Bluetooth at the moment.
- Kind of annoying, the shoulder buttons are labeled like an XBOX controller. The R, L, ZR, and ZL buttons are labeled as RB, LB, R, and L respectively. Function is the same, but could be confusing on Switch.
- There's a tiny hole just above the Exlene logo on the back. At first I thought it was a manufacturing error, but both controllers I received had them and some promo pictures do as well. I'm unsure what this is for. Perhaps a factory reset button?
- The inclusion of Turbo makes this controller not eligible for tournament play and has very minimal use. I'd prefer if it were left off.
- I do not know how long this controller will last. I hope to use it regularly for a few years. I bought the extended warranty. I will report back if this becomes an issue.

Overall, very good controller and am very happy with it.
Good overall

I tried out Exlene's GC controller with 5 games, BoTW, MK8D, Odyssey, SSBU, & SMM2.
The control sticks feel really well imo, I really like how the c-stick is improved over the original c-stick & how the flick back is on both control sticks.
The analog sticks do have more dead zones by a bit than the pro controller for example, moving Link or Mario in their respective games with the GC controller does take a little more push than usual on the stick for them to start walking whereas with the pro, just a little push & the input is already being read.
It does feel a little weird to use this controller with BoTW seeing how the red B button is used for jumping & the X button is used for sprinting, while the Y button is used for actual attacking & the big ol' green A button is just used for interacting.
With Odyssey the controller is okay with it, both A & B button are used for jumping as well with X & Y buttons being used for throwing Cappy but the problem comes with the vibration as well with the L & R triggers.
This controller feels like a damn earthquake in your hands when set to on, also the L & R triggers do miss inputs alot when you try to leap forward with Mario but the motion controls work fine when throwing cappy around so there's a plus I guess.
In this case I rather just stick with a Pro controller when playing Odyssey to be fairly honest If the rumble wasn't too much like an earthquake.
Wait until you try out this controller with the vibration on for MK8D, word of advice DON'T! Other than that MK8D with this controller is good.
The D-Pad is surprisingly great, smaller than the pro controller but it works well with SMM2 & I have no complaints with it.
So now with SSBU, the controller works really well compared to my PowerA wired one before.
The left stick works well with my wave dancing & smash attacks, the C-stick also works well with tilt attacks since it has a nice flick back on the stick, not to mention the larger size of the C-stick is a nice improvement imo.
The purple shoulder buttons work good since they're clicky, the trigger buttons are digital but the left sucks at inputs at time because well it's broken lol.
A,B,X,Y buttons work as intended don't make as much noise compared to the PowerA buttons.
Overall The Exlene Gamecube controller is a really good one overall despite the earthquake rumble & the left trigger, has a nice matte finish on it so it feels nice in my hands.
I recommend this product for what the price is currently asking for & if you can get it for on sale for $30 or under then that's a steal of a deal right there.
It's awesome if you already have the Pro Controller!

This controller looks exactly like the gamecube controller, but it doesn't feel like it. At first is a little disappointing because it feels plastic. At the beginning the buttons layout is a little weird if you have a Pro Controller, but after you get used to it it turns into an awesome controller, even the weird layout of + and - together that i was worried about is good in Zelda BOTW. The light indicator feels right. It's only annoying if you keep switching from the ProController to this one, but if you play always with the same is perfect. Is my favorite controller to play Mario Kart because the rumble is very strong and the A button is very big, hard to miss it. The shoulders button are a little stiffer than i was expecting but you get use to it. The right analog is better than the GC version. It just feels right, great controller and bring me lots of memories. I got the bluetooth version and works awesome for switch and pc. I just let it around the house because i think is beautiful, that's how much i like it.

Good:
- Great buttons adaptation from GC to Switch
- The buttons are great
- Right Analog is good (and left as well but i was worried about the right one that was not good on GC)
- It charges via usb-c
- Ruble is strong
- Good to use with PC for GC emulator

Cons:
- The battery doesn't last as long as the Pro Controller (but pro controller battery is a beast)
- The rumble is VERYYY strong for some games!
- Doesn't wake up the switch (the Bluetooth version)
- Feels plastic
- Shoulder button is a little stiff

OVERALL:
The oficial ProController is better for most of the games. This is a great controller if you have great memories with the GameCube. The rumble is the only thing that can be annoying for some games, the rest is great.
Very Impressed

It's been years since I've used an actual gamecube controller, but this seems like it looks, feels and plays like the original. I am currently using this to play Super Smash Bros Ultimate and it's been a blast. The divots in the left joystick definitely have its pros and cons, but for the most part I really appreciate it for the accurate directional specials.

If this ever craps out, I'll definitely purchase again!
Not the best, but give it some time

First thing you gotta know before buying this controller is that it's not a true gamecube style controller. This is a switch pro controller shaped like a gamecube controller. All that really changes from what I've seen is added buttons compared to the GC controller (good, yay), and the triggers aren't analog triggers (less good, maybe?). Some games might work better with that, I'd go research it a little. I knew that when I bought the controller so that's not my point of contention, just a warning. I personally am not a huge fan, just because the triggers don't press in as much, but that's more of an opinion.

When I first got the controller, it was a little stiff. Some of the buttons gave some resistance to being pressed in, and the joysticks didn't really want to move very quickly. This mostly is going away by just wearing it in.

As part of that, the sticks seemed to have another problem. When I first got it, the sticks seemed like they didn't want to go far enough to output the maximum value. I don't know if I just wore it in like the buttons, but there's also a chance it was just in my head.

I actually was going to give a much worse review, because it's been less than 2 days and one of the triggers didn't want to be pressed properly. As I was typing, I checked a gamepad tester again and it was working just fine. I think what happened is I just accidently turned on turbo mode for that button. Whoopsie. Don't be stupid like me. I think the buttons on the box are laid out differently than on the actual controller but they all work fine.

I had a few hiccups with connecting the controller, but it wasn't too bad. I've only used it with my pc, so far, so I can't speak for other platforms. I'm mainly using wired mode right now, but I have gotten it to connect via bluetooth. Haven't gotten my game to recognize the controller using bluetooth, but it's also a very developmental game, and I haven't spent too much time trying.

To summarize, out of the box you might not be impressed. However, most of my issues seemed to go away after a day or 2. All in all it's a good controller. Not perfect, but it hasn't given me any real issues. If the controller just spontaneously breaks or something in the near future, I'll probably update my review. Anything too distant would just be because of extended use.
