Conveniently portable ball hopper that's great for its price!
Anthony W.✓ Verified Purchase•September 18, 2023
I started teaching my son to play tennis recently and wanted something to hold a medium amount of balls, could fit easily into my trunk, and wasn't heavy. That almost immediately eliminated most metal ball baskets from my selection. The Mini Ballport seemed to fit the bill quite nicely. Despite some of the less-than-favorable reviews on Amazon, I decided to give it a shot anyway especially since it wasn't that expensive.
Upon unpacking it, the unit looked OK. The plastic seems sturdy enough, but certainly isn't a high-grade ABS plastic which is too bad. I would be more than happy to pay a little extra for something of better quality materials. The assembly instruction sheet is laughably bad. Sure, it gives step-by-step directions but the accompanying picture actually makes it more confusing and is counter-intuitive to what you actually need to do. Seriously, get someone to redo this! Like other reviewers have mentioned, the sides come a little warped and it takes some coaxing to line up the screw holes. I managed to do it on my own, but it would be much easier with two people with one person holding the sides in place while the other person puts the screws in.
I've used it a few times on the court and have to say this is a great little hopper. The handles inverse and lock into place to become a stand. The top design has sliding bars which snap into a locked position to keep the balls from rolling around in your trunk. The "rolling bar" design on the bottom lets you pick up balls without having to bend over. You just bounce this thing on a ball and it pops into the basket from below. And the bars are just close enough so that balls don't escape from the bottom. Brilliant! Note that this only holds about 32-33 balls if you actually intend to close it properly. I tried 36 balls and there was no way those top bars were going to close. Still, 32-33 balls is plenty for practicing serves or feeding balls to your kids.
Overall, a very good purchase and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a conveniently-sized ball basket!

Light weight can carry on my bike rack

This small carrier is great for practice. It holds around 30 tennis balls or 21 Pickleballs. (Pickleballs are larger than tennis balls). Also while the hopper can hold Pickleballs they won't squeeze through the bottom like a tennis ball, so you can't pick up Pickleballs in the same way you pick up tennis balls by just setting the hopper on top of the ball.
The handles easily flip around and snap into the side of the basket to become a stand (30.5" tall) so it's easy to reach in and feed balls. Also the top of the basket has rods that slide to open or close to hold the balls in the basket when the basket is turned sideways.
This is the right amount of balls for practicing a serve or drilling with friends. If I was running a tennis clinic for a small group I would want the larger hopper that holds around 70-80 balls.
Very happy with this light weight hopper as I like to ride my bike to the court. I attach the hopper on its side to my bike rack with a bungee cord. I put two tennis racket in one pannier and use another bungee cord to secure the rackets around the hopper basket.
Note: The hopper basket does have a strong plastic odor for the first week, so I keep it in the garage.

Makes tennis practice fun

The Tourna Mini Ballport Tennis Ball Pick Up Hopper is a great option for practicing drills. The hopper comes in pieces and requires assembly. Assembly wasn't at all difficult, but the instructions were not very helpful so it took a little more time than necessary. Once assembled, it functions well. The legs are metal and very sturdy. The ballport is light weight. The basket holds about 24 to 26 balls comfortably, but if you're using the hopper to pick up more than a dozen balls, the balls can get stuck requiring that you reposition the balls in the hopper basket before you can continue picking up balls. It is a great size for easy transport to and from the tennis courts. Overall, it is super cute and a great value for the money. I would buy again.
Mostly good — time will tell...

Had my 10-y/o son assemble it. He succeeded. (So it's easy to assemble!)
The only problems that concern:
"¢ The panels kind of warp where screwed together;
time will tell if stress fractures occur.
"¢ The top bars that slide open/closed are stiff;
we SLIGHTLY rounded the bar edges used a little vaseline.
UPSIDES:
"¢ Lighter than metal.
"¢ Won't rust.
"¢ Folding handles/standing legs.
"¢ Holds 11 cans of balls!
"¢ Easily decorated/personalized.
When we bought it, the price was right. Thus, I recommend.

Holds 30-40 balls. Just enough to practice serves and strokes. Small enough to keep in the car.
