Works well

I've split about a cord so far with no problems. I did replace the hose clamps that came with the unit as they stripped out (29mm-31mm worked for me) and it was sucking air into the pump.
Engine runs well, plenty of hydraulic power

This will start right off on full choke and stays running long enough to reach down a turn the choke off.
This has been splitting every type of wood I've put in it - Red Oak, etc. You have to be careful with some splits that may make the cylinder pusher move off center. The pusher does not have a track aligner to keep it on center and could damage the cylinder if you're not careful. Otherwise it works great.

The media could not be loaded. 1. Packaging could be improved. Nuts and bolts needed for assembly were loose in the cardboard box. The cardboard box had a hole. Fortunately nothing rattled out during shipment - but it could have
2. There are 3-4 plastic caps that must be removed in the hydraulic hoses. The installation manual is silent on this point
3. The need for hydraulic oil is stated as 1.6 gallons on a sticker on the wood splitter; the manual states 2.1 gallons. I had to put in 2.5 gallons - at $30 per gallon.
4. The engine cutoff dial is well hidden. Not where I expected it.
5. Once setup with gas, engine oil, and hydraulic oil this thing rocks! I split maple and oak logs like butter!

Powerful enough to split anything I've hit it with..

I bought this figuring if I split 3 cords of free wood it will have paid for itself essentially and I've done that a few times over. I split red oak, ash and beech which are all relatively easy straight grain woods with the occasional crotch to split and it went through it all with relative ease. I split 24" rounds with it. I had some 30"+ rounds which I split in half and it went through those.
It was easy to assemble with some minor inconveniences. One of the cotter pins was too short for the hydraulic actuator. That was a trip to the hardware store but I had to go there anyway to get more hydraulic fluid since the hydraulic hose on the cylinder top was leaky. Customer service sent a new one which turned out to be too big and they resent the correct one without fuss. It initially takes about a gallon and a half of HF and a quart of 5w-30 and regular gasoline for the Alpha Works motor. Motor is good and starts on the first few pulls. Runs steady and hasn't had any issues so far. I had to retighten a few bolts after running it for a few hours and I always top of the HF after running it. Make sure to get your hoses clamped well especially the one on the bottom of the cylinder. It can't be fixed later without dumping oil everywhere. Soak it in hot water before shoving it up there.
I'm generally not mechanically inclined but I was able to figure it all out.
It's pretty low to the ground so you don't have to lift anything too high but you will be working hunched over no doubt about that. I wish it had a work table on one side (the engine side since it's always in the drop zone).
Nothing is perfect but this is $500 cheaper than the ones at HD and Lowes and I don't need to put it on the trailer hitch to move it around.

The media could not be loaded. This things splits everything I put on it! Was easy to put together and well built! Starts easily every time! Only complaints I have is the bolts/nuts were scattered all over in the box so I had to supply some of my own, which was not a big deal. Overall definitely 5 stars!
