• •Fiddlehead fern was introduced in the early 18th Century to the Acadians. It was harvested naturally in Eastern Canada, foraged from the Ostrich Fern Matteuccia struthiopteris. The appearance of early spring ferns is tightly coiled tips with a delicate texture. They appear like tiny curls coming out of the soil or mud.
• •These ferns are bright green naturally; while hunting for them, you may find them covered in brown papery skin, which can come off quickly if rubbed. The safest ferns are the ostrich ferns.
