I purchased this set so that I could race my 8 year old son who loves cars and racing in general. I had an old slot car track but it took 8 D batteries to power and had no power cord so I decided to look into a new set. This set got decent reviews so I went for it.

The track setup was pretty easy once you got used to seeing the way their diagram worked. There are some tricks to getting the car to stay on the track but after you figure out how the contacts need to be set in the car it's pretty easy. The cars are really fast and do handle well, though you can't go full bore or it will fly off the track, which to me is great. You have to learn control.

My only complaint about this set is the track pieces use plastic pieces to fit and stay together. I can't keep track set up so we had to take it down to put it away. While taking it apart 2 of the plastic posts broke off. It doesn't seem like a huge issue so far but the second time I set it up the same thing happened. 2 more posts broke off. I was even trying to be super careful taking it apart. I'm a bit concerned that it will continue this way and I'll have to replace track pieces after only using it a few times.

Definitely loving the track but they need to come up with a better way to click then together.

I'm a 57 year old and purchased to play with my grandkids (or maybe just an excuse). I've owned AfX and Tyco growing up and loved it. I was very impressed with this for the price and will continue to build. The only negatives are that the cars are very limited (if you want to add more) and are very light/flimsy, however they run great and the turbo boost makes it so much more fun. Definitely recommend and wish the company would add more cars into the 1:43 scale. I did purchase the Mustang separately and did not run anywhere near the one's it came with. It also stopped running within 30 min and had to return. Lastly, it is definitely worth it.

I bought this for my son on his eight birthday. We played it all day and he was thrilled with it. I had a slot car race set when I was a kid, a nice one, and this one is much, much better. The cars got better after using them for an hour or so. I think they had kind of a break in period. They began to hug the track even better than at the start. It has a neat feature on the hand control, it's a removable clip that acts as a governor. When the clip is on it keeps max speed to 70% which is still fast. With the clip in I found I still had to slow down for curves. With the clip out the car is really fast and it requires more skill to race well and remain on the track. But whether the clip is in or out there is the turbo boost button which is so much fun, works very well, and makes the cars just fly. But yet, you can still maintain control with proper bursts of turbo at the right moments. The cars will fly off the track if you give it too much speed but that is a big part of the fun. We laughed often when we'd crash at the intersection or fly off the track. Also the looped track (we always called it loopty-loop) works great. The banked curve works great. Both require additional skill but not too much for an 8 year old. I'm very impressed with the fit and finish. Assembly is easy. Track pieces fit tightly together. Nothing slips apart or moves around while racing. I'm impressed with this toy. I'm planning to buy extension components for Christmas gifts.

So far this was the perfect gift for my 5 - 1/2 y-o grandson. Was a bit concerned that he would have difficulty keeping the cars on the track but in a very short time he mastered the controller. The 'speed limiter' clips on the controls helped. He found the 'turbo boost' button by himself and was able to master that quicker than I did. The three banked turns are really helpful for a beginner to be able to drive fast without the car coming off at every turn. This set, with the crossover and the squeeze section, provides a great level of entertainment for the beginner with just the right amount of possible crashes while still rewarding good car control. I'm glad I didn't buy the set with the loop after reading the reviews.

I gave just 4/5 stars for durability simply because it hasn't been in use long enough for any better appraisal, but judging by the quality of everything I'm hoping it holds up over the long term.

Assembly was straightforward, though it definitely requires an adult to properly snap the pieces of track together.
