First off, sliding mitts are all the rage right now even with players that don't usually slide head first. This piece of equipment is certainly one that is a "˜personal preference' on what type each player likes the best. My son is a head first slider and prefers an all-enclosed style of mitt like the Guardian and the Tru Pro, not so much the thumb out version EvoShield has. That said, the Guardian about half the price of the Tru Pro so we thought we'd give it a shot and it checks all the boxes.
Heavy felt mitt protector: check.
Steel wrist supports: check.
Sturdy wrist wrap Velcro: check.
This does offer a little more wrist flexibility side-to-side than the Tru Pro which some will like (my son does) while still supporting the wrist to prevent jamming, but this will be up to you. We have the Youth version and he is 11, 85lbs so it fits great. We figure this equipment is to simply help with head first sliders getting there throwing hands stepped on. It does the job and half the price of the other options. Two thumbs up.
