I like this blend of mushroom bits. These mushroom granules added a nicely complex mushroom flavor to a small pot of beef stew. I had thin sliced raw beef, small carrots and tiny potatoes on hand, so the mixed mushroom bits were a logical choice to use instead of the fresh white mushrooms I had. Their flavor is much more earthy and deeper than the white mushrooms, I have a recipe for a simple mushroom and pasta dish that calls for shiitake and oyster mushrooms, and this blend is going to be wonderful in that. These small pieces of mushroom should go well in stir-frys and soups as well.
I am a bit confused about the directions on how to re-hydrate them, though. They say to soak the mushrooms in water for thirty minutes, and then strain the liquid through a coffee filter and reserve the flavorful liquid. THEN it says to gently rinse under cold water and add the CLEANED mushrooms to your dish. What? If the mushrooms aren't cleaned until after that rinse, is that reserved flavorful liquid "dirty" water? Maybe it's just awkwardly written/translated, but I threw out the flavorful liquid and rinsed the re-hydrated mushrooms in a strainer. The mushrooms are great and have plenty of flavor.

My husband and I love mushrooms, but we sometimes don't have any on hand when we need them. I've tried other dried mushrooms in the past and not been impressed, but for some reason the flavor of these granules is much better. Often when I make pizza the flavor of the mushrooms gets hidden amongst all the other toppings, but with these there was a distinct and very good mushroom flavor. I soaked them in a minimal amount of water for about 20 minutes so that they were soft and there was not any excess broth.
The cooking instructions are a bit odd. They say you should soak the mushrooms, strain them through a coffee filter, then rinse them. So far I have not gone to the trouble. They look clean enough to me, but it bothers me that they feel the need to recommend these steps. Otherwise, I am quite happy with them, although I do wish the price was a bit lower than $14.99, especially since they are a product of China and not organic.
