I gave this four stars only because the first detector I ordered did not work. Easy enough to return and received the replacement in about a week's time, so I was happy about that :) However the replacement was missing a velcro strap that goes on the armrest for the metal detector. The product itself, headphones, and digger are all good quality and my sons 10 & 8 can use them with ease. Thank You

I was trying to find a survey pin on my lot, since the surveyor wanted $500 to locate the pin that he had already been paid for, so I decided to invest in a metal detector to see what I could find. I knew the general area to search but this detector gave me indicators that I was in the right spot and when I dug up the pin, it was roughly 7 inches below ground level but did give off a signal of metal (steel rebar). I am still experimenting with this detector but so far, I plan to keep it and it also has a great warranty. Great first buy!

The media could not be loaded. I am a huge fan of this unit. Its a great upgrade to the MTXR which was my first metal detector. I've been using it in a variety of terrain over the last few weeks after picking it up and encountered a lot of other people using metal detectors with the $800+ price points, and they were very interested in the MTXE and the features it has VS what they paid so much for. What really blew my mind is its a very very close comparison on a lot of the extremely expensive units. The things that I felt like make the best features of the MTXE would be;

1. Terrain selector; The ability to quickly switch to common areas, Pasture, park, sand, all metal. It really makes it easy to just grab the detector and start sweeping. I am personally located right by the beach, and just switching it to sand mode, I was able to GRAB AND GO, quickly checking a huge area after some people finished for the day, and I found a ton of change, a few electronics, and some toy cars. What I did NOT find, was garbage, it has a really nice DISC feature to ignore a lot of the trash that accumulates. When I went from SAND to ALL METAL, I started finding the aluminum cans, pull tabs, and other garbage that is fun, but kind of annoying to dig up over and over again.

For me, as a moderate novice, newer to metal detecting, its just nice to be able to get the detector and go have some fun sweeping.

2. Accuracy; I have a pin-pointer, and I haven't used it in the last few weeks. Its really really accurate and easy to pinpoint the objects underground. I normally sweep several times to get a general approximation, then IF I need to , switch to pinpoint and its always in the basket when sand sifting. I've been out in dirt several times, and the same technique used, I rarely have to get my pin-pointer out, just sweep, zone it in the center, scoop, and check what I scooped and then check the hole.

The depth gauge has been very accurate as well. Its a great visual representation of what to expect for depth, and the kit comes with a really nice digger trowel with a depth gauge so you are not going too deep.

3. Its really, really lightweight. The shaft is fiberglass, and with the layout of the handle/screen, you really do not even notice using it. Compared to my other units, its a night and day different in fatigue of sweeping. Its featherweight in my hands and allows for continued sweeping when before I had to take some breaks because of the weight.

4. Powerful! I've learned to turn down the sensitivity because it has a great range of pickup. Its very nice to be able to get accurate and quick readings when sweeping without having to worry too much about angle/height of the units. If I am within a reasonable distance to the ground, I get perfect hits. I am pretty tall, so it was nice being able to have a relaxed hold on the unit and get perfect results.

5.. Full kit; You get the detector, a nice carrying bag (I've been using it for a treasure bag too) A very nice set of headphones with braded cables, and the digging trowel that comes with a sheath so you can attach it to your belt or bag very quickly. I really like the quality of these items, they feel very well made, and the digging trowel is incredibly useful with the serrated edge for cutting through turf, and the depth gauge on the backside to give an approximate digging depth.

My overall takeaway from this is; Its a great upgrade if you have an older beginner unit, or if you are getting into metal detecting like myself. The price point is really amazing considering the technology going into it. When I met a lot of "Old timers" while I was out sweeping, they asked and I let them give it a try. I could tell they were very impressed and totally blown away when I told them how inexpensive it was. One guy said, " When I got into this, a unit like that was more than a paycheck " Its incredibly how much power is now available without breaking the bank.

I would definitely recommend the MTXE for ANYONE looking to get into detecting. Don't waste your time with units that have no terrain selection, as it really made a huge different to me and made me enjoy my time sweeping much more.

I've had this a little over two weeks, I've been out around 15 hours of sweep time, so my review will be ongoing as I plan to get some nice field use videos and some photos of my loot so far.

It works but it has a hard time deciphering different metals. My kid has found some cool stuff so if you want to test the waters & get a feel for a fun new hobby without breaking the bank...this is a good kit. You can always upgrade later if you decide metal detecting is a good fit for you.
