I bought this power supply because it was a great deal, has a great warranty, and is a "linear" power supply. Not a "switching" power supply. A linear power supply can drive a short whereas a switching power supply, has protection that is meant to keep the unit from being damaged from a short.The linear power supply allows you to "drive a short" without damaging it which is very helpful to trouble items like IC's that will heat up when they are damaged. This helps in troubleshooting immensely. One way to be sure you get a linear power supply is to look at the weight of the item. A linear power supply will weigh 10 or more pounds due to the large transformer inside, and a switching power supply will only be like 3 pounds. Very light in comparison.
