It allows for the bath water to rise above the tub's factory-set level, but make sure it is on tightly before filling. The bottom suction cups seemed to be problematic. For the price though, it can't be beat.

I looked at these covers for a while before I chose this one because I have an old-fashioned oversized overflow drain. When I received it, I wondered how it would keep the water out because there are just suction cups every inch or so around the diameter but it works great! I can fill my tub up to the top and it doesn't drain out. Plus it's kind of fun to look at!

This little guy is honestly a godsend. I love a luxurious bath and this has helped elevate my baths exponentially.
The suction is really good especially considering my tub is a little wonky near the overflow drain. The individual feet help with this and I haven't had any issues with the tub still draining after I install the cover provided the feet are a little damp.
This guy is quite large and even though my overflow drain is pretty big, it covers it nicely. Because of the size, I can't keep the cover on with the spout facing up for very long while I'm filling up the bath. I think that may be an issue with my faucet being shallow, but if I fill the tub with the drain cover on, it juts out enough that the water cascades over it quite a bit. If I have the spout of the octopus straight up, half of my water goes into the cavity where its head is. Like I said, I think this is an issue with my tub rather than the product. If I plan on having a high bath level, I just add the cover at the end of my water filling up completely so I lose as little hot water as possible. It is not a deal breaker by any means for me, but it is something to take note of.
