I have abstained from any smartwatches purchases... until now. I don't want or need constant notifications or impedances into my life in yet another device. I also don't want jewelry when I am more interested in sport/outdoor use.

But, I have been wanting to get GPS for various sports that I track through Strava. I haven't wanted to get another Apple device for a variety of reasons.

My main desires ended up being the top features for the T-Rex 2:
- Reasonable Cost (when I'll likely scrape it up from sports/biking, etc.)
- A "dumb" Smartwatch: Simple and "unintrusive" if I want it to be (no cellular or speaker)
- Battery Life: able to be worn for days/weeks at a time without constant charging
- Full GPS and Strava integration
- Adjustable/customizable features
- Custom watch faces
- Intuitive interface and app
- VO2, Pulse, calories, steps... everything you want is available

I did a lot of research and compared everything from Apple, Garmin, and other major players at price-points up to $1K. I found Amazfit and found that the T Rex 2 was the best of all of these brands for price, features, capabilities, GPS, etc. At $200, nothing comes close for what I desired.

I used this for Wing SUP boarding the other day and the watch was waterproof/bombproof and the activity was easily ported to Strava. I was out of rang of my phone so I had to manually "push" the activity to Strava by opening the Zepp app on my iPhone and once my watch synced, it automatically updated two activities. I had to reclassify the activity type as it was uploaded as MTB, but that is not a problem, I rename activities anyways.

WATCH FACES:
PROS
- Decent selection to choose from. *My friend with the Apple Watch Ultra was admiring the watch face I had.
- Faces are only $1.99-$2.99
- Some faces are customizable
CONS
- AQI doesn't display well or at all. It is random and will only occasionally show up and it is usually wrong compared to actual local AQI. We should be able to manage what service is used... or at least get it to actually function. I live in an area that gets wildfire smoke regularly, so this is an important feature to have.
- I also find that many of the faces only display in metric units and cannot be changed. So check the faces before purchase.
- Was hoping to find a compass/watch face for outdoor hiking/biking (like the Apple Ultra). Nothing yet.

The critique is that the brand and product name are silly. T-Rex? This is a watch, not a dinosaur toy for a child.
Not a big deal, but certainly I have though about getting rid of the big white "T-Rex" logo on the watch and likely will soon.

For $200, this watch is fantastic. Give it a shot if you don't really care about an $800 Apple Watch or having a speaker on your wrist.

I just received my watch yesterday and so far I have to say I am impressed. I have always been an Apple Watch guy, but after I had my second cracked screen, I decided to try something else. I found this on Amazon and after reading the reviews I gave it a try. I've only had it a day so I'll update this after a few weeks. So far I really like it. It does everything I need it to do and more. I've worn it non stop since I got it and the battery is still at 95%. I expect to get several more days on this charge. It is lightweight and comfortable. It looks and feels like good quality. I've seen others that you can tell right away they aren't good quality. The first thing I noticed was how responsive the screen is. The Zepp app is very user friendly and provides everything I need so far. There are also lots of faces to choose from. There are quite a few free ones and others you can purchase, but I haven't seen any more than $2.99. I can't speak on the accuracy of the GPS since I haven't used it much. I will speak on that in my update in a few weeks. If you're looking for a good replacement to the overpriced Apple Watch, then I'd say give this a try. It is made in China, but then so is Apple.

For some perspective, I have been wearing Apple Watches since the day they came out. I also recently decided to try a $700 Garmin smart watch. I can't even say "for the price" (because I don't want people to think that this product is cheaply made, because it is NOT)... my first impressions of the #AmazFit T-Rex 2 are outstanding! I have had it about 18 hours so I will know a lot more in the coming days, but I am so impressed with some of the things they got right that I had to jump on and write a review immediately.

So... the strap is incredibly comfortable and has MANY slots with small increments so you can find just the right fit for you. I had struggled with this with so many Apple Watch bands over the years. Also, the watch it incredibly light weight but has enough "bulk" to make it feel like a man's watch and it feels durable. Time will tell on the durability.

The screen is incredibly responsive and bright enough to see in bright sunlight. I've only had a limited about of time to check into the different watch faces and have found a few that I personally like. I am hoping you can create your own as I am pretty picky about the info I would like on the watch face.

Some of the things AmazFit got right that even a $700 Garmin appeared to be missing:
- FIND MY PHONE; the ability to ping your phone when you have misplaced it. Can't tell you how many times I have used this on my Apple Watch.
- a quick and easy access to timers; could not figure out how to do this on the Garmin. On the T-Rex 2 it is a simple swipe down and touch the timer icon
- SOFTWARE UPDATE (v9.48.1.1) arrived this morning and has some great enhancements. Control center icons are larger, apps menu icons appear larger and cleaner, weather widget has HUGE improvement, and much more.

So for my first day with the product, and paying over 70% LESS, the AmazFit T-Rex 2 is an EXCEPTIONAL buy. I'll try to come back after a week or so and product a more detailed review one I have used it more.

[NEW UPDATE, 8 days later]
So it's been a whole week and I will start with... I WISH I HAD DITCHED MY APPLE WATCH SOONER! I have had the T-Rex 2 on for almost 9 full days and my battery is still at 52%. #AMAZEBALLS!!! I have also begun to learn more about the workout tracking. I added a couple more photos of just part of the workout reports. I selected a Strength Training workout and did both bench press and bicep curls. The T-Rex automatically recognized which exercise I did. I touch one button to stop a set, then in counts the recovery time and then I touch the arrow on the screen to start the next set. When done, I can add the weight or I can modify this later in the app. I don't think Apple is here yet (if they are I never knew that).

I am still very much AMAZED with my AmazFit T-Rex 2. Bravo AmazFit.

The main concern for smart active watches is how long the battery last during and between exercise activities. I have tested for a couple of months and the battery really does last close to a month (3.5 weeks) between recharge. Watch is comfortable and high quality. Lots of watch face options and great exercise features.

I owned a Fitbit Versa 3 that decided to brick itself one day, so I was in the market for a new smartwatch. Unfortunately, all the 'good' smartwatches are grossly overpriced and the cheapos are just that. Plus there's always the question of a watch's app being syncable and easy to use.

In comes the Amazfit T-Rex 2. Let's get this out of the way right now: if you think the watch looks like a Chinese knock-off of a Casio G-shock Move, you're right, that's the look they're going for, and with 100M water resistance and the chunky design. They nailed it. The only minus is the watch band, and I'll talk about that more later.

I needed a smartwatch that could get wet and dirty and sweaty and still be comfortable and easy to use. The T-Rex 2 ticks off all those boxes and has a big battery that will last a couple of days on one charge. I say 'last a couple of days' because if you use the watch for more than, well, a watch, you're not going to get the super-long battery life. Still 2-3 days of use with exercise monitoring is nothing to sneeze at.

Where the watch shines is it's customizability. No, you will not be able to jam every app and watch face you want into the T-Rex 2, but there's enough space to stick more AmazFaces watch faces and niche apps for decent functionality. The built-in excercise apps are surprisingly good. Not a fan of certain subscription 'premium' apps on the Zepp app, but you don't need to use them. Internal compass works fine. Timers/stopwatch work well. Heart monitor seems to be working well. The GPS on the T-Rex 2... other than longitude and latitude coordinates I wouldn't rely on it; instead of just syncing to Google Maps you have to use 3rd party apps that have mediocre reviews in Google Play. For hardcore GPS (for hiking) you may a well bite the bullet and buy a good Garmin GPS smartwatch.

Between Zepp and Amazfaces (and don't forget the GTR 3 watchfaces work on the T-Rex 2) there's plenty of variety to make your watch as legible, tactical, tacticool, or as cheesy as you want.

Speaking of the Zepp app, it's greatly improved since I've owned an Amazon Bip smartwatch. It's not perfect (premium apps and some settings are buried) but it SYNCS without headache on my Google Pixel 6 and you can modify the interface (data blurbs called 'cards') to report on what you care about.

At the time I bought this (May 2023), the Amazfit T-Rex 2 cost $200 shipped and I think it's worth it. The only ding in the product is the silicone watch band. It LOOKS like something you'd see on a G-Shock but it's much flimsier - you get the notion that you could easily snap the band or tear it between the clasp holes if you're not careful. A day or two of this weirdness and I bought a T-Rex 2 strap modification kit and a 22mm Barton olive green silcone strap to fix that problem.

I like this watch. You will need to spend time to customize it, but the fact that you CAN customize it is a big win at this price point.
