My need was to sand down the 20-year old cedar boards (the ones I wasn't replacing), on the porch steps, the parts I couldn't get to with the belt sander due to upper-step overhang, so they'd match the new boards coloring when 'varnished'. Five inch was the minimum size I needed..
I was never fond of the adhesive-backed sanding disks, but these 'velcro-type" peel-off/slap-ons were sweet. Since this purchase was for a specific need on a specific project, I don't know how it will hold up in "daily use", but the $25 bucks was a heck of a lot better than doing all the parts the belt-sander couldn't get to by hand. I'm happy.
