works very well

What I really like about this item:
- This coffee grinder actually works very well processing whole bean roast coffee.
- There are 15 different settings for ground size, so you're going to have a wide range of choices to get your coffee precisely dialed in.
- It makes short work of quite a bit of beans, especially at the speed setting 3 on your Kitchenaid.
- It is very robust and well-made. The plastic is very heavy duty and the metal parts are pretty heavy duty. It ought to last a long time with care.

What I find to be less than ideal about this item:
- Small hopper, small grounds catcher. Come on, if I'm busting out the KA, I mean business! The hopper should be big enough for a pound of beans, at least. The receptacle should be able to hold that pound of beans. If I want to grind just enough for the Moka pot, or the French press, I'd rather use something smaller that doesn't involve getting the my KA Pro 600 out of the pantry.
-The grate in the bottom of the hopper will clog. You have to stir them every once in a while to get the beans to drop into the impeller worm.
- It's a PITA to clean. It's easy enough to take the assembly apart for a casual cleaning, but, especially if you're grinding at the finest setting, the grounds get compacted into the grooves on the grinding plate and in the recesses for the screws that hold the grinding plate in place, they defy the nearly useless little brush that comes with it, even toothpicks can be broken trying to clear the compacted powder. The grounds also get into places that are hard to get to, if not impossible without a full take-down and disassembly of the parts, which leads to what I consider to be the worst thing about this machine"¦.
- I fear there will be major problems if extreme care is not taken in trying to completely take this gadget apart for a thorough cleaning. The maker seems to shrug this off telling you that you really don't need to clean it, but in real life operation, grounds will get into places you can't get to without removing small, hex cap screws, and those screws have very shallow heads. I fear that it wouldn't take much force at all to completely bugger those screw heads. If you do, you can forget taking this apart without drilling out the ruined screw and replacing it.

I've taken a few pics, the one that shows the grind-selector dial best illustrates what I mean. If you look closely, the screw in the center of the dial has already been buggered a bit. And that's how it came from the factory. Now imagine trying to remove the two identical screws that hold the grinding plate to the assembly, as you would do to prevent it from rusting if you really washed it properly.

So, yeah, as long as you're OK with never giving it more than a cursory cleaning, it'll last years.
But if it had a good size hopper and grounds catcher and proper screws, I'd cherish it more for those years.
Low speed, small batch, burr grinder.

KitchenMod burr coffee grinder attachment for KitchenAid stander mixer.

What I like about this coffee mill is the large grinding wheels and the low speed operation. The wheels are 3" diameter. They run at 50RPM when attached to my older KitchenAid K5SS.

There are 8 marked grind settings and the selector has 15 detents. I'll call #1 course, and #8 fine. At #4 the grinding wheels make intermittent contact, indicating there is some run out. At #4-1/2 the wheels make constant contact and anything above that slows the mixer down and heats up the wheels. So it's unusable above 4-1/2.

I ground Peet's dark roast using several settings and compared it to my old DeLonghi DCG coffee mill. The KitchenMod puts out a medium grind on the course setting, and at 4-1/2 produced something like coco powder, finer than flour.
The receiver doesn't hold much, about 10 scoops or 1-3/4 cup water. If the bottom is removed a bag can be tied around it for grinding larger batches. Grinding with the receiver removed makes a mess since the grinds don't fall straight down.
Cleanup takes a few minutes. The incoming beans push out the grinds so about 1-2 scoops of grinds are left inside, depending on oil content. For this reason I think this grinder is too much trouble for small batch use. If you don't mind old grinds mixed with fresh then don't clean it every time.

I make my own cold brew that uses an extra-course grind so this mill won't work for me as is. Since other reviewers haven't mentioned the incorrect grind size maybe my mill was factory assembled incorrectly. I'll play around with it and update if I can get it working right.

Update:
I repositioned the selection wheel, advancing it 1/2 turn. The grind sizes are now the same as my DeLonghi. I like it.
5 stars.
Well made and easy to use

I found this coffee grinder to be well made and easy to attach to my kitchen aid. The grinding was uniform and complete. I would have given it 5 stars had the unit been a bit larger in its capacity to grind more beans at once. It is a lot of work to attach to the kitchen aid and grind only 1/2 pound of beans at a time. Although suggested minimal cleaning between batches, this will be a problem if you are going from dark toasts to light roast coffee as the grounds will get mixed in if you don't clean thoroughly between batches. Although not a Kitchen aid product, does work as well as one in the unit.
Adequate

From what I understand, Kitchen Aid doesn't have a coffee grinder attachment. KitchenAid has its own range of coffee appliances, which includes a stand-alone bean grinder. Sometimes it is hard to make a great pot of coffee, and you need a grinder that can help. This may be the one.
Works great!

Works great! We mostly use it for fine grinding beans for espresso. It's perfect for grinding a small little batch at a time so we always have fresh ground coffee for each cup of espresso. I also use the coarse ground for our French press that we take camping with us. We pre-grind it, and keep it in airtight baggies take to the campground.
