The gap between our slide-in range and the counter is particularly wide (~12mm on each side) and the counters are low so they don't line up with the top of the range. As shipped, the bend in the metal is only wide enough to be snug in a gap up to about 8mm wide -- but I was able to bend the flap out by hand and then slot it in next to the range. It isn't rock-solid stable if you intentionally poke at it, but in ~2 weeks of normal cooking nothing has dislodged it. The lack of a cosmetic front only disappointed me while I was installing it and was quickly forgotten. All that comes to mind now is the rubber spatulas, pens and food debris that isn't falling down the side of the stove any more.
