This is awesome but recipes are hard to find
Pleasantly Surprised; You do need a lot of freezer space to store

I REALLY love ice cream, and I REALLY love non-traditional flavours and mix ins. I keep hoping for a home ice cream maker that solves the problem of not needing so much freezer space prior to use. Obviously, this doesn't need as much space as a full size ice cream maker, but, for one serving, it does need a lot. But, still, it's workable a lot of the time. I was amazed that it worked exactly as advertised. Put in the ingredients and turn the motor on, and keep it going until you get the consistency you want. I looked on the web for recipes and advice on how to use it, and they were easy to find and spot on. The company advises if you want really hard ice cream, or if you don't finish what you make in one sitting, you can put it back in the freezer in the bowl. Be careful as this works a little too well and the ice cream will be absolutely rock hard! Still, I think it's good that this will make hard ice cream as some ice cream makers make ice cream that is just too soft for me. The size is also good as you can also experiment with recipes and not have to make an entire multi-serving batch. I tried making cottage cheese ice cream, and, it really wasn't for me, and, I was glad to just have the one serving and not have to waste it and throw it away. As long as you put the bowl in the freezer long enough beforehand, it's really nice to be able to take it out on a whim and make whatever ice cream you want, and, and it really will produce nice ice cream.
Soymilk ice cream

I like to make homemade soymilk with dates so I got the idea one day to put the liquid in this dash ice cream maker. One of the other reviewers recommended putting the dash ice cream maker in a deep freezer for longer periods of time than the dash instructions suggest so I did that. Soymilk tends to be a bit gritty depending on how little you filter it but with the dash ice cream maker (and putting the bowls in the deep freezer) I put barely filtered soymilk into the bowls with sole vanilla extract (for flavor) and made really delicious ice cream. It tasted better than store bought soymilk and because of the icey ice cream texture, the grittiness that usually accompanies unfiltered/barely filtered soymilk wasn't an issue. It just felt like ice cream or rather a non-dairy frozen dessert. I'll definitely make it again and try adding some toppings. Also with the deep freezer method-I think I left the bowls in the deep freezer for 2 days before I actually got around to using them-the bowls were still cold after making the ice cream (20 min wait) so I probably could have made a second batch of ice cream in the same bowl. I've used the dash ice cream maker a few times now and can honestly say it's cut down on our trips to the store for ice cream during this hot summer.

This is a handy little ice cream maker. Honestly, I only used it once, so far, because I don't have the patience for it, but it worked well when I used it.
