I was looking for a gift for my husband. He likes to smoke cocktails and I thought he could use this. The lid just rests on the jar, he was looking for a bell jar that has a handle on the top of the whole thing. But I will say it's a sturdy cannister that you can use for coffee, tea, cereal, oatmeal...anything that does not need to be sealed. I added the photo for scale-it's a 12oz can.

I like that there's a knob on top to open the lid. It holds some small things like toothbrushes or q tips. Easy to hand clean. I wouldn't chance putting it in a hot dishwasher for fear of it cracking. Highly recommend.
