A 32" tv can fit on the thing and still enough space for a laptop, or to eat, or to just rest your arm on. Very stable. The pic is my 32" on one side and plenty of space on the other.

I can't say how easy it was to put together. Most of the stuff I get from China makes Ikea look good.
Not this, I had it together in about 45 minutes, with the help of a 5 yo Gordon Setter. Everything lined up, and it even shipped with spare screws, just in case.
