Easy to Install
Eugene✓ Verified Purchase•February 18, 2024
This camera is extremely easy to install, and is versatile as to where you can mount it. Although connecting each camera to the app was also very easy, i found the operation of the app to be a bit problematic. Each time the app is closed and reopened you must go through the process of re-connecting to the camera live. Very often this process requires you to refresh more than once to establish the connection. Apart from this the cameras a minimal in size and has a high quality video, siren motion and light feature. My cameras have been installed approximately 2 weeks now and the battery levels are at 97%. Based on my experience thus far i would say excellent value for money. Pack of 4
Great system for the money... but with some limitations.
Carlos Coello✓ Verified Purchase•February 7, 2024
I already had a camera system installed in my home, but I wanted something with a battery backup as power outages in my area are a bit common during the winter months. After reading several good reviews about the Galayou R2 cameras, I took the plunge. I needed 9 cameras to replace the system I already had in place, so ordered three four-packs.
Right out of the box, the build quality of these cameras is impressive. The materials look and feel high-grade and the design is aesthetically pleasing, which is important considering that I purchased these to go in and around the house, so, I wanted something that looked good. The setup of the first camera was a bit challenging. For some reason, the camera did not want to connect to my Wi-Fi. After several attempts without doing anything differently, it finally connected. Each subsequent camera setup went fine. Installation around the house was easy and quick with the provided hardware and drilling template.
Now after a few weeks in use, I can speak to their functionality.
Observations:
* I will start with my biggest complaint... NO LOCAL CONTINUOUS RECORDING OPTION. I understand that these cameras are designed around the battery, so they only record when they detect motion to conserve battery life. However, I was hoping that local continuous recording to the micro SD card would be available when plugged in. This is NOT the case. Maybe if its motion detection were MUCH better than it is, I would be able to overlook the lack of a local continuous recording option. However, with the motion sensing being so weak, it almost makes continuous recording a necessity. Hopefully, the manufacturer will provide a local continuous recording option in future firmware updates.
Note: There is a continuous recording option available through the manufacturer's cloud service. The problem with this option is that 1: it records in a 7-day loop, which for my applications would be fine, but others may find it too limiting, and 2: (my biggest issue with this cloud service) it is ridiculously expensive at $12.99 a month for ONE camera! I have nine cameras in use and could potentially have twelve. This service would cost me a small fortune each month, making this option a non-option for me and perhaps for many others.
* Speaking of its motion sensing, it is very average... possibly below average. With a motion sensor that is much larger than my previous cameras, I expected superior motion sensing, but it is actually about the same or worse. In most cases, the sensor triggers the camera to start recording way too late and only captures the person as they're exiting the frame rather than sensing them the moment they enter the frame. Even with the sensor's sensibility turned up to maximum. Considering that this camera only records when it detects motion, that is a BIG negative. I've found that most cameras are too sensitive and would be triggered by a passing bug. However, the sensing capabilities of this camera are quite the opposite. Having local continuous recording would remedy this issue.
* The picture quality in normal lighting (daylight and household) is excellent. The image is sharp and clear. Although it can be a bit contrasty depending on the scene, these cameras still render very good detail.
* Picture quality using its night vision is good, but I've seen just as good or better with other cameras. This camera has eight IR diodes that provide the infrared light it uses for night vision. I expected that with that many diodes, the night vision would be far superior to my previous cameras, but found that it was the same as my previous cameras that had only one diode.
* The two-way talking is excellent! My previous cameras also had this option, but the quality of the sound both ways was horrible and, in the end, kind of useless since what was being said was nearly impossible to make out. These, on the other hand, are great! The sound coming through the camera is loud and clear and the microphone also picks up voices very well.
* The additional white LED light is great! This was another selling point for me. Since power outages are common in my area during the winter months, I figured it wouldn't be bad to have a light source I can count on around the house during a night-time power outage. I wasn't expecting a tremendous amount of light, just enough to make things out in a dark room. Well, the light these cameras give off does the job. They give off more or less the same amount of light as a cell phone flashlight, which is enough to see well enough in a room to not bump into things. The light also works great outdoors providing extra light when you need it. Not to mention that whether indoors or out, turning the light on when live viewing makes the scene full-color to allow for better observation.
* I will say that I was a bit disappointed that, although each camera came with its, albeit, short (two-foot) charging cable, no chargers were supplied. This was a bit of a downer for me as I was planning on having these continuously connected to power and only using the internal battery as a backup when the electricity inevitably would go out. The good thing is that these cameras were replacing my previous cameras, so I figured I would try to use the cables and power adapters I already had installed. The only problem was that these cameras have USB-C connections and the cables from my previous cameras were all micro USB. I decided to buy some micro USB to USB-C connection adapters in the hopes that this cheaper solution would work rather than spending much more money on new 10 to 15-foot USB-C cables. The gamble paid off as the adapters worked beautifully. But still, power adapters should be supplied by the manufacturer.
* Finally, the app. These cameras use the WansView Cloud app. I've used other apps with other camera systems and I find this one to be more or less the same in functionality. It covers all the basic functions and allows you to see all your cameras at once if needed. However, I did find that it often takes long for the app to connect to the cameras (not a Wi-fi issue) and the interface can be a little clunky compared to others. It also doesn't allow you to place the camera panels in the order that you want them and instead lists them randomly. But overall, it does what it's designed for.
In the end, I wouldn't say that I'm 100% satisfied with these cameras, but I am impressed with the build quality and many of the nice features that come standard. I forgot to mention the included alarm feature that can be used to scare off critters or intruders... a nice little feature to have. Live viewing is also great, allowing you to record directly on your phone if needed. I think these cameras are a very good option for someone looking to set up a multicamera security system in their home or business but don't want to run cables or spend too much.

Many functions, low price

The media could not be loaded. Had other wireless security cameras before but always needed expensive battery replacements. Running out of battery so fast but then I found this really nice camera from GALAYOU. Its rechargeable- no need for battery replacements any longer. Battery charge lasts a long time. The picture is very clear as well as the sound. It has two way communication and has different motion detection settings: people, vehicles, pets, packages and has different sensitivity settings as well.
Night vision is very good with an infrared mode. The white lights automatically light up and the image turns into color. You can use your phone to speak through the camera using its built-in speaker app. You can also use the app to enable the light or an alarm and the camera supports saving video to a local SD card. There is a rubber panel on the underside for inserting the microSD card and charging. I like the fact that I get notified on my phone whenever it senses activity. The
settings are so simple, just download the app and set up the camera. The app is intuitive and can be used for indoor and outdoor use. For the very affordable price, this camera is great. It's definitely worth the money. I'm very satisfied.

Very good portable 2k camera with outstanding battery life
tony s.✓ Verified Purchase•January 25, 2024
Let me start be saying I am a current user of other Galayou cameras, the Y4 pan and tilt camera and the bulb security camera and very happy with their products. I was curious to see how their new battery powered camera is compared with the rest of their lineups.
I installed the camera in my second floor home office. The setup was easy and quick, within 5 minutes the camera was up and running. At first look, it seems that all features are similar to their other cameras, within the Wansview app, you can configure the camera for motion detection, alerts, etc. my first concern was the battery life, at the initial setup, the battery was at 91% and now after 2 week of usage it is at 89% (see pic). Yes, there were not a lot of activity in my office beside me entering and leaving but still this is an excellent battery life. Very impressive with its high resolution streaming.
Other features like, motion detection and motion alerts work very well like their other models but this camera comes with this new feature, Private mode, which allows you to turn off the camera life streaming without shutting down the camera, very nice feature.
Off course 2 way communication is very nice feature where you can view and talk to others on the other side of the camera. The camera is IP65 weather resistance but I only used it indoors and did not test outside. Other feature like Light and Siren turning on on motion detection are nice also when camera is installed outdoors but again mine was installed inside. The camera also support local 128G SD card as well as cloud storage but I do not use. The only feature missing from this camera is the RTSP and ONVIP support which allows communication with other video security and webcam software like blue iris. This feature is available on their other models but I assume it is missing from this portable camera because of its heavy battery consumption.
Overall I am very impressed with this high resolution low cost camera with its outstanding battery life and I strongly recommend it.

A Review from a somewhat tech savvy person, but not too much
nancheee✓ Verified Purchase•November 30, 2023
My neighborhood as had some suspicious activity taking place here and there, so I was looking for a camera that had a light to hopefully somewhat deter suspicious characters and offer light in those dark corners of the property.
I checked the reviews on these cameras, and everyone left very high reviews, saying how easy it is to install and something about the technology"¦ Blah blah blah. I don't know all of the techie stuff people had mentioned, but here is my "good" and "bad" Reviews for the regular person who's never had a camera like this before.
GOOD: It was very easy to install the app and camera. The app pretty much walks you through everything and you can start looking at the live view immediately.
GOOD: Each camera comes with 2 sets of screws and its own charging cord, BUT you will have to have your own base charger for each to plug into the outlet. If that's an issue for you, then consider buying them. They're pretty much charged at delivery, but I plugged them in just in case.
BAD: The quality is okay. You can even zoom in, but the picture will be blurry. For example, if a car pulls up to my driveway, I will be able to identify the appearance of the vehicle, but if I have to zoom in for a license plate, I don't think I'll be able to make it out.
BAD: I kind of thought you would be able to rewind the camera to see any video of the day you want.. nope. It will take a picture of something it caught in action (blurry or clear depending on when the picture was taken). That's it.. UNLESS you pay for their subscription. It's not super expensive, so that's KIND OF A PLUS. You can purchase on a monthly or yearly basis and there's different options. I just got the basic and it's fine for me.
GOOD: The basic subscription will take a short video of what it catches and a picture will appear on the alerts. You can review or download any of the videos/pictures to your phone if you want. It will stay on the cloud for 7 days, and then it will start all over again. So you have access for 7 days and then it will record over the previous ones.
BAD: It only captures movements based on your settings, but you still can't review the 24/7 video. It will only capture what it does. So if something happens across the street at my neighbors house, it may be too far off to capture anything and I can't review the video to see who or how many, is that makes sense.
KEEP IN MIND: You have to adjust the settings of your cameras individually. Like how far off into the distance you'd want to be alerted and how sensitive you want the capture to take place and how often you want it to take a picture/video of it and if you want the light to come on all night or just when the movements happen and how long you want the light to stay on.
GOOD/BAD: I obviously wanted it to be sensitive enough to where it captures any kind of suspicious activity. But if it's windy, or you have a flag on your porch, it will start taking pictures every few minutes because the shadows are moving or the flag is moving, and that's kind of annoying because you get a lot of alerts and you have to go through all the pictures or videos to see that it was just that. But at least I know it's working. And it's just trial and error from there to adjust the sensitivity.
GOOD/BAD: the battery life. Depending on how sensitive you make it, it will drain your battery faster. Since I have my cameras set at a medium to high sensitivity rate, the battery does go down a little faster, but I will say that it does last a long time. For example, after setting it up and having it capture movements for a week, it went down from 100% to about 66% so my estimate is that I'll probably have to re-charge each of them every two weeks just to be on the safe side. And that may be an issue to some because you will have to get your ladder to reach those cameras to charge. The good thing is you don't have to take everything out of the wall. The camera itself is screwed onto the mount, so you just have to twist the camera off, charge it, and then put it back on. But you will have to probably check the camera angle again to make sure it's where it was before.
GOOD: the light is good for a short distance and it has an alarm sound component too. It also has voice control, so you can talk into it. I didn't mention this before, but you can hear the sounds on the live feed, and in the videos that it captures. You can set up the alarm and light function, so where you can turn it on and off like a switch or there's an option on the settings where it can go off, if you wanted to if there's ever any movement. The light feature can be turned on all night so that it gives you a better night view if it captures anything, or as I mentioned before, you can leave it set up so that it only turns on when there's movement for up to 30 seconds, and then it turns off.
OVERALL: these are good cameras for basic surveillance. I saw some reviews saying that it works great indoors, and I think they're absolutely right because you would be able to see everything and everyone more clearly in a smaller space, but for outside I feel like it's more basic. Like I said, if the thing that it captures is close by you might get a greater detail. If it's farther away, it might be a little bit blurry, but I appreciate the ability to zoom in if I want to I think it's worth it if you are a beginner, but if you're more of an advanced techie person who wants all the bells and whistles, then maybe this one isn't for you. This is more for the every day person , who doesn't live in constant danger, but wants a little bit of reassurance to see what's happening around their home.
