I have wanted a metal detector for a long time, but when I see one at an auction, they usually go for more than I wanted to spend. This was in my price range and got good reviews, so I bought one. It's my first one, so I have nothing to compare, but it is a little harder to use than I expected. I will have to learn more about operating the detector before I can truly evaluate it. At first use it seems like it detects metal everywhere, but when I place it over a visible piece of metal, it does not seem to change tones. I will have to figure out how to adjust the sensitivity and other settings before I can determine if this was a good purchase. I have a buddy who has used one and may be able to show me how it works. Constructionwise, it seems well-made. Came with a small shovel and headphones and a small backpack. Has a lot of bells and whistles, can't say if that means anything yet. Probably a good price for a beginner to learn on.

I was trying to find a survey pin on my lot, since the surveyor wanted $500 to locate the pin that he had already been paid for, so I decided to invest in a metal detector to see what I could find. I knew the general area to search but this detector gave me indicators that I was in the right spot and when I dug up the pin, it was roughly 7 inches below ground level but did give off a signal of metal (steel rebar). I am still experimenting with this detector but so far, I plan to keep it and it also has a great warranty. Great first buy!
