Glitchy, runs hit, but pretty handy at time

I kinda knew what device was limited to before I purchased. Love that you sideload apps, but hate that you have to disable depth settings to use apps. So Everytime I want to use it on rog ally or steam deck have reset device to enable the depth settings. Device gets pretty hot, and device can be pretty glitchy that device reboots out of now where. It would be great if it included Google play service but that probably just increase the price. Love being able to place screen above my monitor and have anchored to a set location, mostly use that for watching movies above regular monitor screen
Works! What You Must Know

This works as expected. Sure there are a few bugs here and there. This is new technology and is always getting better as it evolves.
This company gets a lot of hate from people who don't realize that it's hard to work with Apple - Apple uses proprietary technology and aren't fans of working with 3rd party vendors. I've owned both Apple and android phones and there are far more apps available on Android than IOS.
The blame needs to go to Apple to stop being so proprietary. They don't want to work with other vendors. Apple being typical Apple and they love $$$.
I've used the beam with my Xreal glasses on both my android phone, Steam Deck, and ASUS Rog Ally with no issues. Also with the Beam, my android phone is fully compatible. I'm loving it!
People who say the Meta Quest works better at connecting their Windows desktop to the quest haven't obviously worn the headset more than 30 minutes! It's big, it's bulky, it's VERY uncomfortable. Plus privacy is out the door and no way will I give Meta access to steal my personal info.
Sure Apple will come out with their own AR glasses and you'll need a 2nd mortgage to afford it! But Xreal will be finding ways to evolve their technology and I'd rather be patient than spend over $1000 for what will be the SAME technology. Yeah, have fun with that!
I know more fixes are coming out for Xreal and am happy to wait. I'm an engineer for an I.T. company and know first hand that no technology that comes out is perfect off the bat
4 stars out of 5 :)

Xreal adjustable display

The ability to vary the size and distance of the display is awesome. This is only surpassed by the ability to load streaming apps directly onto the Beam itself, allowing you to bypass using your phone as the source.
Very fun as a toy, also with a lot of practical potential

Well they advertise that apps are "coming soon" but based on what nreal/xreal has demonstrated so far, I wouldn't hold your breath. This is absolutley a display intended to be hooked up to something else, and not a standalone unit. But that said, you can hook this thing up to your phone, a Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, your PC, or anything that has a whatever-to-USBC adapter. You can plant a virtual display in a fixed position, have it track your movement so it's always in front of you, or do this sort of hybrid option where the display shrinks down and it's sort of in front of you, but off to the side. So like if you were watching a how-to video while actually following along in real-life you just look at the virtual display. Also for privacy--only you can see the screen. It's 3-DOF (degrees of freedom) which means you can look left, right, up, down, etc. and the display can remain anchored in place, but if you get up and move around, it'll follow you around. (By contrast, with 6-DOF you could anchor it to an absolute spot in space and walk away from it, and it'll appear to stay hovering right where you left it.)
Like I said it's got some possible practical applications, plus the privacy of being the only one who can see the screen. But mostly it's just fun to lay on the couch and play video games on the ceiling.
11/23/23 Update: There are now official apps for Netflix and Prime Video built into Beam, which unintentionally (for now at least) opens up a nice avenue to install your own apps. Using the Netflix app I went to My Netflix, then hit the 3 bars in the upper right, then "Help." Click on "Help Center" and it'll take you to a rather simplistic browser called Lightning. Here's where things get interesting. Manually navigate to https://cdn.xrai.glass/share/beam.html and from there you can start to install your own 2D apps. I personally went straight for Firefox (so I now have a reliable modern browser right off the main menu) as well as APKPure to manage future software installs/uninstalls. (Naturally do this at your own risk.) For some reason downloading APK files from Firefox doesn't seem to work, but that's where APKPure comes in. Firefox makes it handy to Google stuff, look stuff up on YouTube, etc. And then of course the native Netflix and Prime Video apps now make this a viable standalone entertainment platform.

The work as expected as long as you have the right expectations

Let's say you are expecting the Edith Sunglasses from Tony Stark (or close), this is NOT it, the glasses are wired. a small display that you wear in the form of sunglasses.
Can I wear them to run? It will be bulky and visibility won't be good so no.
Can I wear them on a plane, bus, or car (not while driving it) Yep, that makes sense.
Will I be able to Face ID strangers with the watches by themselves? NO
So the watches allow 2 things:
1. Mirror screens (with cable)
2. Accept some "casts"
Now to the BEAM, I got my glasses with the purpose of having something small to watch movies while on the bus, on the plane, or in bed. Use them with the PS5.
Without the BEAM I was able to connect my iPad (USB-C) directly to the glasses, and well watch anything I was watching there, from Netflix to YouTube, and local videos and it worked just fine.
What I didn't like is that I couldn't close my laptop cover or it would go black.
With the BEAM you stream wirelessly from your device to the BEAM and you connect your glasses there.
It is better since you can close your laptop lid, or stream for the phone (iPhone 13) with no adapters and such, BUT BUT BUT wireless streaming DRM content doesn't work, so Netflix doesn't work wireless for example.
I found that information BEFORE I got the BEAM so it made sense for me to get it, and it works as I expect it would.
I think there should be more clarity about it. DRM streaming that is for sure.
Having these glasses makes sense if you want for example put the PS5 next to your bed, without having a TV and just connect them (with an adapter) to your glasses or BEAM and play right there.
I was wondering if I could just connect by HDMI my AppleTV, so same logic, no TV in the room and just the AppleTV close.
I am not convinced about using the glasses/beam with my laptop to work, the app is buggy and it feels weird. Maybe you can get used to it, not my case.
But in short, it does the work ,just don't assume it will do X or Y and search, after that buy it (or not).
