It's waterproof and you can use it with or without water or gel.

I went to Walmart and tried to buy one of these they couldn't tell me if it was for water or dry and they would not open up the package to show me the instructions. They started raising their voice with me at Walmart. I ended up putting it back embarrassed and left the store. Then I came here and I ordered it on here with no problems because they explained their products and they are exactly like they explain when they get here. This thing works amazing just like you would expect from this product. It doesn't even pull a hair out when you're shaving longer hair. I used to get razor burn when I used one of these but it flexes more and it has a coating on it or something like that that keeps it from hurting sensitive skin. This thing is exactly what I need. Don't write a review until you know. The trimmer on the back of this thing just pulls your hair out. I guess there's always something negative.
Works great

I was skeptical I could dry shave with this but it works great. Nice a day I use it and while it's not as clean of a shave as I would like it does fight stubble
Decent, no-frills shave that works better than fancier models
Howard Nemerov✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 12, 2024
I prefer buying a 2000 series Norelco over allegedly fancier models. The independent heads of the latter don't navigate over my jawline as well as this model, and the shave wasn't any better. The 2000 series battery life is about 75% of the fancier models, but this shaver is easier to handle. The fancier version had the on/off lever up near the shaving compartment where I like to hold while shaving, so I would accidentally turn it off sometimes. The 2000-series switch is better-located. Shaving with the 2000 is easier and just as good.

I do have some caveats for buying any Norelco to get the best service life out of it.

First, I flip open the shaving head and flush with warm water to remove potential buildup. This injects water into the shaver, so I put my mouth around the power connection end of the handle and gently blow a few times until the water is cleared. While this may seem strange, I'm concerned about water in the shaving handle causing corrosion and reducing useful life. I also carefully blow out and wipe out the shaving area and blades for the same reason.

I recommend buying an extra set of shaving blades when you buy the shaver. Norelco has a habit of forcing upgrades by discontinuing production of replacement blades when they discontinue a model. After-market blades are cheap and cut poorly (think razor burn). I only buy Norelco replacement blades.

I turn off the shaver before opening the sideburn trimmer. It's on the same power takeoff, and one time I flipped the trimmer open while the shaver was turned on, locking up the entire shaver and requiring a replacement purchase. It's a design flaw but one that's easy to work around.

Make sure the power connector is dry before recharging. Since water enters the entire shaver when rinsing out post-shave, I'm concerned about shorting out the unit unless it's perfectly dry.
My husband LOVES it

We have had this for a couple months now and it's my husbands first electric razor. He now uses it all the time which I love because I hate kissing him the day after he shave's because it hurts my face or gives me a rash. He now uses it all the time and it's so easy and quiet. He loves it! Also works great on his chest. He normally uses it dry and hasn't had a problem with ingrown hairs which has been a problem with other products.
Reliable Performance for a Couple of Months

I've been using the Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 Rechargeable Electric Shaver with Pop-Up Trimmer for a couple of months, and overall, it has proven to be a reliable grooming companion. While it's not without its considerations, it deserves a solid 4-star review for its performance and features.

Efficient Shaving Performance (4/5):
The shaving performance of the Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 is commendable. It efficiently captures and cuts hair, providing a clean and smooth shave. The flexibility of the shaver heads adjusts well to facial contours, ensuring a thorough and comfortable shaving experience.

Pop-Up Trimmer Functionality (4/5):
The pop-up trimmer is a convenient addition for detailing and shaping. It effectively tackles areas that require precision, such as sideburns and mustaches. While not as powerful as dedicated trimmers, it serves its purpose well for quick touch-ups.

Comfortable Shaving Experience (4/5):
The shaver's design and rotary heads contribute to a comfortable shaving experience. It glides smoothly over the skin, minimizing irritation. The overall ergonomic design enhances grip and control, making the shaving process hassle-free.

Quick Charging Feature (4/5):
The quick charging feature is a notable advantage. In just a short amount of time, the shaver can be charged enough for a full grooming session. This is particularly convenient for those moments when a quick charge is needed before heading out.

Decent Battery Life (4/5):
The battery life of the Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 is decent, providing enough power for multiple uses between charges. While it may not have the longest battery life on the market, it's sufficient for regular grooming routines.

Easy to Clean (4/5):
Cleaning the shaver is a straightforward process. The detachable heads make it easy to rinse and maintain hygiene. The cleaning is hassle-free, ensuring that the shaver remains in optimal condition with minimal effort.

Consideration for Sensitive Skin (3/5):
For those with sensitive skin, the shaver may require extra care. While it generally provides a comfortable shave, individuals with extremely sensitive skin may experience slight irritation. Using a pre-shave conditioner or gel can help mitigate this concern.

Durability (4/5):
After a couple of months of use, the Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 has demonstrated durability. The build quality and materials used suggest a product that can withstand regular use, but long-term durability will need further evaluation.

Portability (4/5):
The shaver's compact and portable design makes it suitable for travel. Its lightweight construction and protective cap contribute to its ease of portability. The inclusion of a travel lock feature is an added bonus.

Overall Satisfaction (4/5):
In summary, the Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 has performed reliably over the past couple of months. Its efficient shaving, pop-up trimmer functionality, and quick charging feature make it a worthy grooming tool. While there are considerations for sensitive skin and long-term durability, it has met my expectations for regular use. A solid 4-star rating for its overall performance.
