As a novice, this is a huge upgrade and seems to work great

The media could not be loaded. Got the Delonghi Stilosa (EC260BK) for Christmas. As I started figuring things out, my first purchase was a decent manual grinder. It made so-so espresso with the included portafilter, but my basic research said I needed a non pressurized basket, ideally a bottomless portafilter. I didn't have a lot to spend on toys, so looked for something like this that would do the job without any frills.
I'm very pleased with this item. The machining quality seems quite good. The wood handle is attractive. The fit with the Stilosa is very good. The lip that seals to the machine is a bit more narrow and I've found if I over-tamp it will end up leaking some water around the lip. The basket retention is good, so i can tap the puck out without it dropping.
Above all it definitely makes pretty good coffee - coming from someone who is not an espresso snob. Anyway it is definitely good enough that I have found my decent ($40) grinder is now my weak link (adjustment is not fine enough to dial in well) - but good enough for me.
As you'll know if you've researched bottomless PF's, a bad puck prep will lead to a mess. After a few dozen shots, most of mine pull without too much mess. Keeps me learning! (And slowly buying those new tools where I can find a bargain!)
My other gear: a WDT needle distributor (cheap lipstick tube form factor) and a basic stainless 51mm tamper with a similar wood handle. Waiting for the tamp-through magnetic dosing funnel to arrive.
