It might seem like it's a no-brainer but definitely remember to plant the seeds right next to the 'glass' (it's clear plastic). That way you can see the roots faster. Or, like us, you will have to wait to see the roots. See attached photo, where you don't see a darn thing yet. EVENTUALLY we will. But for now.... bupkis. Regardless, in general kids do love to do step-by-step directions, plant things, and watch them grow. My kids were super excited to see those green onion seeds sprout up, and they did in about 9 days. We were starting to worry lol They are having a blast with this though, and every experience like this where they're learning (in so many different ways!) is a good thing.
The kit includes everything that you will need to get started, step by step instructions, a very handy water catcher for underneath the 'pot', and the seeds and soil you'll need as well as an instruction booklet. It worked as expected, and would definitely recommend for homeschool, as a supplement to school, just for FUN, or as a gift! Enjoy!

I got this kit for my plant-loving nephew's upcoming 5th birthday. His mom and dad are the homestead type, so he's been around plants his entire life. They have a well-lit kitchen, where he can set up this kit in the spring and watch his plants sprout. Even though this kit is on the smaller size, it will fit well on their windowsill, which was my biggest concern.
This kit has enough seeds to plant more than one round of plants. Cilantro and green onion seeds are included with this kit, but really - you could plant anything in the container to watch it grow. Nice, educational product where kids can see what is happening underground as plants are growing above ground! My nephew will appreciate this kit! I can't wait to see his smile when he opens his present.

I got this for my daughters (5 & 8), who like helping out in the garden, and who I think will really enjoy seeing the process happening underground. We have grown bean sprouts on paper towels before, and they got a kick out of that, but that has a lot more immediate results than this kit. They are going to have to be a bit more patient to watch these plants grow. After we use the seeds provided, we'll probably pick up some that are "more fun" to watch, like a carrot or radish.
This was smaller than I expected, and smaller than similar kits I had seen elsewhere. The plus is that means it will fit well on our windowsill, but there's not room to grow a bunch of different plants at one time. Be sure to check dimensions :)
