We have a tempur pedic adjustable bed and the base matches the exact color of the headboard. It looks like it came together. The board is thick enough to sit comfortably against it when reading in the bed or watching TV. My husband did not use the hardware that came with the headboard. He installed it directly against the wall using cleats. It is very sturdy and doesn't move one bit. We would definitely purchase the item again.

The headboard is very nice quality! Everything lined up nicely for assembly. For reference our mattress is 19inches deep and we have the headboard on the highest level. Unfortunately for me the gray reads more taupe. If you are looking for a true gray this isn't for you. As you can see in the picture the curtains are a true gray. Again great quality and easily assembled. May exchange it for charcoal but am worried that will read blue???
