The Creative Act is one of the best "books" I've encountered in a long while. I put quotes around the word books, because Rubins' work transcends that description. If you read each tiny chapter slowly, contemplatively, immersing yourself into the energy found in his carefully chosen words, you will find yourself meditating and your own energy shifting into a higher state. His work is that powerful - magically transformative. It flows like a gentle mountain stream in summer, and you will find yourself being drawn to the pages again and again.

I listened to this audiobook during stressful commute days, but I also own the hardcover. The quality of both formats is excellent, but it's obvious Rick Rubin is a legendary music producer. I loved the soothing, resonant, and meditative quality of the audio. Even though it makes me a bit squeamish when he talks about making "great art" as opposed to just playing and being creative as a passion, there are still plenty of inspiring passages to illuminate the creative path of writers and artists. I found it exhilarating and inspiring. I know I'll keep revisiting the book in times of low inspiration to reignite my love of storytelling and the creative journey.
