I bought an inexpensive tapestry loom just in case I turn out to not like tapestry weaving as much as I hope I will. This one comes with lots of extra "doo-dads" and a pattern to teach you some basics of weaving. It's a great set up for the money.

Simple and sturdy. Everything you need to get started is included. Great for beginners- esp for those who don't want to make a big commitment to a project (or those who buy to relieve stress and not necessarily to be amazing at weaving lol). It's relaxing. Currently winging it. Will probs have to break bad habits later. Ce la vie. I love this thing. I am using the crap out of it!

I have never weaved before. This was easy to use and a great size to start out with! Very sturdy!

I've had this for about 6 months. The wood frame seems really sturdy. The kit comes with enough warp string for one project with a little leftover, and there are multiple colors of yarn, once again with enough for one project and some left over. The weft sticks seem flimsy though, they always feel like they're about the crack (although they haven't yet). My biggest complaint are the instructions which are practically worthless. They say things like "to do ______ (for example, to change colors or to finish the project) do something like this:" and then they just show a picture and don't explain how to do it. You're left on your own to figure out how to do everything. A child would definitely not be able to figure it out on their one. Neither would some teens and adults, to be honest. It is a really fun and relaxing craft activity, for adults or teens. Just wish there were clear instructions, maybe even a dvd.

A great starter loom that comes with an instructional booklet to get you started, including a project you can make. The set also includes 2 shed sticks, 2 shuttles, yarn for the project, a plastic darning needle. If you are a very beginning student, it helps to look up additional step by step instructions online, or in a book such as "You Can Weave" by Kathleen Monaghan & Hermon Joyner, to fill in the gaps. The loom itself is well made and sturdy, beautiful wood. The tools are nicely made, too.
To make the weaving process a little more efficient, I made a heddle stick from a 12" dowel rod, cotton yarn, and masking tape (using instructions in the "You Can Weave" book) so that I would not have to continue to "re-weave" in the shed sticks. So for one shed, I use the shed stick; for the 2nd shed I lift the heddle stick. That way I can keep the shed stick in place within the warp.
