also the handles are much more comfortable and substantial
shawn sullivan✓ Verified PurchaseDecember 1, 2017
the one pictured is not the one you will get. it will be grey with black base and table, also the handles are much more comfortable and substantial, all the specs. are the same. the table is a ''T'' slot with no cut outs in the table so those vice clamp table clamps with the eye bolt won't work, you will need the bridge port / milling table style with the ''T'' nut, set. there is no hole in the center of the table, if you need one drill one, it's a drill press. the table has a threaded hole in the corner so if you are drilling steel with oil the oil will go to the corner and collects in a bucket and not all over the place. as noted by others it is a very well made and worth the money.
Not so bad.....

Not so bad after all. Kind of pricey for what it is as it is made in China.
Nice big table. Would have preferred a center hole, but it'll do without.
Solid setup, but with

This Drill Press has some issues.

The belt tensioning mechanism is inadequate. You have to pull on a 4" lever to hold tension on the pulleys while tightening two set screws with plastic wing handles on the end. They tighten against oiled finished rods that hold the whole motor assembly back. I could not get this to hold tension on the belts in low gear. The set screws work loose and the belt will slip during high torque drilling. My workaround was a tapered piece of wood that I tap in-between the motor housing and the machine to hold tension. This may indeed be a 1.5 HP motor, but there is no way to get that power transferred to the spindle - the belts WILL slip. I was planning on using an annular cutter on steel and needed about 1 HP, but found it very difficult to get this drill press to do the job.

And a minor gripe -- the chart showing how to position the pulleys for different RPMs shows the pulleys in the opposite configuration that they are on the machine. For example, the diagram correctly shows that for low gear you should have the first stage pulley at the top and the second stage at the bottom, but it shows that as going from large to small pulleys, which would be high gear. It's hard to imagine how that would go to print without anyone realizing the mistake.

However, the work table is nice, the column seems rigid enough and the spindle was pretty darn normal to the work table right out of the box. I like how the work table has a hole at one end, which is handy if you use cutting fluid.
Badly designed depth gauge adjustment
lawrence Wilke✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 22, 2015
I'll Try to keep this short. The depth stop adjustment is not cast into the head of the drill press. They used a half inch piece of cast iron and bolted it into the side of the drill press. The pictures did not show this. The bond between the depth stop gauge and drill press head is not strong enough and moves between .020 and .050 of an inch. This may not seem like much, but when doing precision work it's a disaster. Our workshop ruined $4000 worth of work because of this bad design. Unfortunately we did not catch this design flaw before it was too late. I am very unhappy. I called and informed JET they need to straighten out this problem. We do precision musical instrument building. I was told this machine was not designed for woodwork, but for metal work. What the hell kind of answer is that!!!! Machine work is just as precise, if not more, than woodwork! They offered no help or compensation. I will need to have a welder come in and weld the stop to the side of the head. That's simpler than packing this thing up and sending it back. Meanwhile I'm back to using my 70 year old Delta. I would give this drill press 2 stars, but that might be vindictive cause I'm seriously annoyed.
very nice quality. I was able to assemble it single-handed

Top-notch delivery service.
This drill press is a monster, very nice quality. I was able to assemble it single-handed, but it would be easier with assistance.
