Makes cooking large meat (ham, turkey) to temperature easy!
J. Rubin✓ Verified Purchase•May 13, 2017
After using a small non-electric dial thermometer for years, I was frustrated with opening my oven and re-checking the ham or turkey every 15-30 minutes with a fresh poke. I saw a recommendation for this corded thermometer, and tried it out with a ham last weekend- I simply put the probe in, let the cord go out the oven door, and set the heat alarm for 140; and just under 3 hours later I knew exactly how close the ham was to being done when our guests walked in, and heard the alarm in the other room while we were talking. Since then I've used it while grilling on lower heats, and love the fact that I can see the temperature moving up in real time without having to re-poke or open the oven/grill regularly.
Taylor Precision digital cooking thermometer

This is our second identical model Taylor cooking thermometer. The first one lasted approximately 3 years. It was used constantly in the kitchen and as a BBQ thermometer. It performed perfectly in all applications. The audible alert for the reaching the preset temperature is very nice. The timer function works well but we don't use that option very often opting instead for the timer built into the ovens. We found this device to be well suited to our needs which is why we purchase another identical unit. The first one seems to have failed due to a faulty probe wire. I felt that with the amount of use and abuse it received over the years held up really well.
Never overcook your meats again

This is the second digital cooking thermometer I've owned from Taylor. I use this when I smoke meats or roasts in the oven. It's extremely accurate and the temperature alarm is a nice feature. I have yet to overcook anything since I purchased this. Be careful when inserting or removing and that you don't pinch the part where the cord meats the metal probe as this can cause malfunction. For this price, it's a great product.
It was terrible, but I tried to get by

This is the second time I've bought this exact thermometer. The first was 9 years ago, and it was a workhorse for quite some time. Finally, two years ago, it began to give inconsistent readings and I had to finally let it go. I suspect I may have damaged it, as I put it in the oven a few times at higher-than-recommended temps, and I'm sure I got water in the connection between the wiring and the probe on a few occasions. It stood up to a fair amount of abuse. I had planned to replace my old reliable thermometer with the same item, but my husband saw a different one on sale at Walmart (only $2 more than this one!) and bought it for me. It was terrible, but I tried to get by. It was inaccurate, inconsistent, difficult to program, the cord was too short and the magnet didn't work. After a couple of ruined dinners and two emergency runs to the store to buy an analog thermometer for comparison, I gave up and bought this one again. It is easy to use, and it works well. It is one of the kitchen gadgets I just can't live without, and I'll continue buying this specific item as long as it's available.
Buy it, you can't go wrong!

Awesome, excellent unit. I use it so I know the moment my deep fryers are up to temp in my food truck. My last one finally died after about two years.
I wish it would hold the alert temp between power offs. Once I park the food truck & begin setup, every second counts... and it takes a little bit to reset the alarm to 350 each shift. That got annoying, I decided to never turn it off, and I found that normal alkaline batteries last about 9 months, which I think is great. While I am tempted to give it 4-stars for not storing the alert temp, I still give it 5 because the long battery life (while constantly on) makes up for it, which might also be a contributing factor to why my last one died.
Food trucks get hot and most of the electronics (digital thermometers/timers, etc) I've ever kept stored near heat sources only last a year or two, which I consider perfectly acceptable for non-industrial devices.
