Took it to the beach and it was trickier than anticipated to use and get good readings. We tested it with coins on and under the sand with mixed results. If the unit is close to the ground, and items are not more than 6-8 inches deep you should get a notification from the speaker. Headphone port is a full 1/4 inch jack as well - it's rare that folks have an adapter or full size headphone jack which was a bummer... Overall, not a great unit. Maybe there are worse units, but I would spend more and get something else if starting over...
Fun to use and low entry price

Picked this up for about $70 along with the $11 bounty hunter headphones. After reading the instructions and watching a few YouTube videos, I went out in our backyard and the woods around our fence. This is my first metal detector and after about an hour of hunting, I can say that I am very pleased. This is a nice detector for someone just starting out. I was concerned that I would not understand the controls or that it would not work well but no problems on day 1. Not much in the way of treasures discovered but still a lot of fun finding different metals and interesting objects like an old toy gun. Really looking forward to exploring new areas. Warning: I think this could be an addictive little hobby. The next things on my wishlist now are a pinpointer and a better shovel. I'll include a photo of what I found in the first hour. Good luck with your hunting.
Poor quality

Very disappointed, very poor quality of detection. I might received one with a problem. But the one I have is definitely not working correctly. Does not detect metal sometimes, and the tone does not change with gold or anything else (even with the good settings)..
Broken on arrival. Not sure why this has so many good reviews

Doesn't work at all. Super bummed. As soon as it is turned on the needle pops to the middle and stays there. Tested with coins in the backyard... no beeps at all. Glad we tried before wrapping it up for Christmas. This is going right back

Had it about a week. I live at the beach and have only used it in sand so far. Works well. Found about $1 in change, a rifle bullet, matchbox cars, lighters, flashlights, bolts and of course...1700 beer bottle caps. Discriminator works well. Still learning the settings. I like to use the "all metals" setting and then discriminate once I find metal. Not sure about claims that it detects up to 8 inches. At least not in sand. As far as I can tell, the depth range seems to be about 4 or 5 inches unless the object is really large , such as a soda can. Doesn't work well in wet sand. Continuously goes off the closer you are to water. But hey, for beginners, at this price , it does the job. You won't be disappointed. Just practice using the discriminator settings by following the instructions. Or you'll be digging up nails and pop tabs all day. ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
