Excellent except for the loud beeper

I have had this unit installed in my bathroom for about a year. I use the three speeds. I like that it can blow in, out and exchange air. I do not use the thermostat or remote control.
Amazingly, I find the temperature display useful. While not at all accurate, it is good enough to tell me what to wear on my bicycle commute.
MINUS TWO STARS for the hideously loud beeper that announces every button press. I hated it so much that I made a video showing how to remove the beeper. Search for "Silencing the Bionare Window Fan Beeper" on Google.
I use it on the second floor. On the first floor someone could easily remove it and gain access to your home. On the first floor, a narrow window fan would be better for security.

Battle of the fans - Both win!

I bought two of these fans both from Bionaire. One was the BWF091AR and the BW2300. This review will cover both. The great thing about these fans are that they are quiet (especially at low speed) and still pull in twice the air as my old Holmes Walmart cheapies. They are well constructed but just so you know a bit larger (wider) so they don't fit in the well of the double pain window without pushing out the screen and in one case broke the old screen before I knew to be careful. But once you know that, they kick ass over the older, slimmer fans so worth it for me. I prefer the AR since it is a bit more quiet than the 2300 but if you didn't compare the two side to side and quiet isn't the most important, might be worth saving $15 by getting the cheaper 2300. Really nice to control the fan with the remote for speed, direction, and temp (automatic) and you can even have one fan pulling in air and the other expelling air. Overall very satisfied with each.
The best reviews are ones when the product is a few years old.

A really good review of a product, especially one that involves moving parts for example, should be done months, even a couple of years after the product has been used, abused and hopefully loved and cared for as well. I bought this product 3 years ago. It works great. It runs everyday of the year, many days all 24 hours. I take it apart completely every 6 to 8 months and clean and lube it. It comes apart quit easily. I would recommend this fan to anyone. Next month I'm buying another one.
I think everyone who buys products here should write their reviews months after having tried the product and put a product through it's paces. It only makes sense to get a complete review of a product by having used the product.

Best dual window fan I have ever used

I live in a 3 bedroom condo where the master BR has only one slider window and its too warm even with ceiling fan on. I have tried other window fans and this one is just marvelous! I am giddy with excitement over finally being comfortable (dare I say almost too cold at nite?) with this unit. I prefer it with both fans blowing the cool air in. I actually got the temp down to 69 last nite while living room and other bedroom with 8 feet on windows were only one degree warmer. Usually its 5-8 degrees warmercin this bedroom. I love the remote so I can adjust if needed during nite. I prefer manual setting at nite and auto/temp setting during day. I like it that there is an option to buy solid extender panels to add to left side and plan to do that to help bridge the gap on my sideways mountxin slider window. Have lived here 20 years and this is the best this room has ever felt! I can finally wear my normal jammies and use normal covers instead of covering with a thin sheet at nite.
I love having this, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

I am quite happy with this fan and have learned to appreciate the reversible airflow options (although I still don't understand the temperature option!) I live in NY, in an overheated apartment. The reversible fan is fabulous and gives me the option to to blow the cooler air into the kitchen (in the winter) or like an exhaust vent while cooking. The remote is also invaluable (once I memorized the lights) since I've placed the fan at the top of my window and out of reach. But there are a few problems. The biggest one is that the fan does not lock when it is not "on". So, if it is a windy day out, the wind "activates" the fan. If it is a particularly cold and windy day out, I must have the fan "on" and in the exhaust mode so that the cold wind will not blow into the kitchen. So the fan is nearly always "one". In addition, this works against the the temperature mode option that supposedly works by a system of stopping and starting(?). However, since the fan doesn't lock when "off", the fan is often activated by the wind - and not necessarily in the right direction! This makes that option rather worthless unless you have no wind. Perhaps this will work better in the summer when there will likely be less wind. The fan would also greatly benefit by a screen. In cities like NY, the fan blows in dirty air. I have taped a bug screen in front of it and it gets pretty filthy fast. I wish it was easier to clean. And finally, the settings should be easier to read without getting within inches of the fan itself. I can't tell you how many times I had to get on a step ladder to figure out what setting the fan was on before finally memorizing how the lights correspond to the settings that are barely legible and not indicated on the remote.
