We had an older model of the Orville Redenbacher's air popper for many, many years. It finally died out and I went searching for a replacement. SO many machines have reviews stating issues with melting plastic. Eventually I just had to bite the bullet and give one a try. Since we had the older model of this unit, I just chose to go with the newer model. We have not been disappointed! I honestly wonder how the people with melted plastic are using their units and if it is partly user error that is the issue. We fill it solidly to the line, or just so you can't see the line. The old model we used to have to hold the unit back so that unpopped kernels didn't spill out when turning it on. This one we don't even have to touch! SO NICE! We never have any kernels shoot out of the machine before they start popping. We get 99%-100% of kernels popped every time. We never preheat the unit (I had no idea that was a thing until I started reading reviews - could be one reason for melted plastic - there is no need to preheat!) Once the popping slows down and there are no pops for three seconds, I immediately unplug it. I know some people that just leave it on until every last kernel is popped. Well, the problem with that is that sometimes there are duds! Letting it continue just means you are shooting extremely hot air up onto the plastic lid...another potential cause of melting! Honestly people, read the instructions. I'm not saying ALL the melting issues are due to user error, but based on some of what I read, some of it definitely is. We are thrilled with this air popper and have nothing bad to say about it.
Best decision we ever made

Best decision we ever made! Clean/simple design, easy to operate, no mess save for a few stray kernels, about the size of a blender so fits in our kitchen storage, and I feel confident in its life expectancy because it's a plug-and-run gadget (no settings, no power levels, does the job in 2-3 minutes then it unplugs and is off until next time).
We decided to invest in one of these because 1) this family consumes popcorn several times a week 2) I prohibit microwaved and/or packaged foods 3) I was getting tired of making stovetop popcorn several times a week at the request of my constituents. Also important to note, whether you're stove or air-popping, one bag of kernels goes a very long way, saving you money and cabinet space and saving the environment on packaging material. Plus, flavoring your own popcorn allows you to control salt and fat quantities, experiment with new flavors (I like cayenne, turmeric, and paprika), or let the kids create new flavors.

Love it!
I did a lot of research on different popcorn machines and this one seemed to be a good fit. A lot of reviews people were complaining that kernels popped out and on the floor but to me it was something I would expect. I don't get upset by the small things, and it would only be like maybe 5 kernels that would pop out. I didn't mind it though, like I said earlier, from a popcorn machine maker that is something that I expected and it wasn't much at all. Came right on time and we've already used it 5 times. Good buy!

Melted onto the head
Aaron✓ Verified Purchase•May 23, 2017
Used it once, the cup melted onto the head, kind of scary.
Aside from the malfunction, the popcorn came out good. I did however almost have melted plastic on my popcorn.
I'm definitely not going to use it again.

Should bought before... too good.

This is a nice and clean popper, works well take us about 3 minutes to pop the maximum recipe. the only down is there is no oil so the salt does not stick, We are using liquid salt and works great. :) I am adding this because of the complaints of some users:
1- About the popcorns wasted yes it waste if you use a low-quality popcorn, with the recipe cup I found waste three or four only.
2- Throwing some unpopped popcorns, yes if you use less than the recipe cup it will, it is physics the hot air flows and will throw the popcorns unless it has a minimum quantity.
3- Yes it is hot so be careful"‹, remember when you made popcorns in a pan? so did you put your hand on it? same here.
4- On/Off button really needed.
5- Dual voltage really needed.
Hope this clarify some question... by the way I am just a normal user who hates people who make bad reviews of a good product.
