Poor design decision and think it through
James Preis✓ Verified PurchaseJuly 2, 2017
The pulleys allow the rope to to get stuck between the jockey wheel and the pulley housing. VERY frustrating. I just got down off a 6 foot ladder that I had to get out to get to the pulleys that are - by design - mounted out of reach (ceiling/high mount). Terrible design that could be remedied by simply decreasing the width of the pulley housing by ~3-4mm. Also, remember this: You must keep clear the space under the hanging bikes if you use your bikes with any frequency. So if you mount this close to the wall, the wall and floor space below the bike must be clear/unencumbered. Because of this you actually LOSE some space.
Great price, easy install, works great!

This will be the 4th bike lift that I've purchased of this brand. I love this lift it works well it's easy to install. I have one mountain bike, two kids bikes, and my latest purchase I'm using to hang a hardtop Cargo Carrier upside down from the ceiling. The two tips I would give to someone purchasing these brand new: 1) make sure that you know where you're going to place the cleat before you install so that you don't have a long rope hanging from the mount to the cleat. 2) once you have this installed then you should put a few nuts on the other side of the rope that you normally pull so that if the Rope ever gets away from you it doesn't pull all the way through the pulleys.
Nice and solid to the truss

Okay, it works as advertised. However, if the trusses in your ceiling are routed in a direction perpendicular to the direction you want your bike to go, you're forced to either mount the two pulleys 24" apart (two narrow) or 48" apart (by most building standards). I chose 48" and used the center two holes on the pulley brackets for the fastening. Nice and solid to the truss. My biggest complaint is that the hooks are not angled enough. Because of this, I had my mountain bike hoisted and hooked up just as the directions said, and the seat came off the hooks while I was standing in front of the bike! The front wheel slammed into my face, but no damage was done (fortunately, I turned enough just in time to avoid a broken nose). After that, I took a 24" adjustable wrench and bent the hooks to a tighter angle, attached the seat to them by going around the seat post and under the seat... and it works fine. Good product though. If you want your bike off the ground but don't want to have to do a full shoulder press to lift it, this thing is a good solution.
outstanding value

As others have said, the hardware is terrible. But they're just screws. $0.15 in 2 inch screws and problem solved. The rope is pretty cheap, and if I had this suspended over something that would be truly horrible if the bike fell (or if I was suspending an expensive bike high up enough that rope failure would damage said bike) I would spend 3 bucks on some truly bomber 2mm accessory cord from REI (or regular sash cord from home depot) and still be happy. The instructions were clear, the pulley mechanism works just fine, the pulleys are heavy enough to lower by themselves, and the spreader hooks on the pulleys are actually VERY adjustable.

Buying myself a second one for my mountain bike. My somewhat heavy chromoly schwinn traveler is easy as pie for this mount.
the screws did not hold properly so I purchased better ones and that solved that problem

I just purchased my second lift for my wife's bike, but have had a few issues with this that I managed to correct. First, in the initial set up, the screws did not hold properly so I purchased better ones and that solved that problem.
Second, I just bought a new bike and the saddle was designed to tilt up slightly in the back underneath. So after the first lift, a couple hours later we heard a crash in the garage and found that the hooks slid out from under the saddle. No damage to the bike itself but it did cause the bike to push forward and knock some tools off my tool board. I solved future issues by putting a small bungee cord hooked through the hole above the hooks and then looped through the saddle. It keeps the hooks pushed in and acts as a safety net, so to speak should they come off again.
Finally, as others have mentioned, the rope is sub par. It works for now but I can see I will need to replace it sometime. Before I mount the second one, I'll just buy a quality rope to start.
So, although it works well, the fact that I have to upgrade with screws, a bungee cord for safety and a better rope scores it three stars. I would have gladly paid more up front for a quality upgrade.
