This rf modulator works converts composite sources to rf cable output. As to autoswitching this only applies to the choice between antenna in and ONE video source. You can only attach a maximum of 2 sources. I routed one source to ant. In (game output) and the other source to the composite inputs (DVD) . At first I expected the unit to allow switching between MULTIPLE composite sources. Not so.

For those of you that have older tvs without an RCA input this does the job inexpensively. I needed to attach a DVD player to a TV with only an antenna input. It also seemlessly switches to the DVD player when its power is turned on.
