I bought this toy years ago, and each kid of mine has loved this. As far as noise making toys go, this is one that I don't mind. The voices and music are cute. It's a great way for kids to learn what sound each consonant makes and sounds vowels make. I find myself singing the songs myself: "B says bu, B says bu. Every letter makes a sound, and B says bu." Haha The toy is well made and we've had no issues with it. Batteries last a long time. My only issue is getting my kids to keep the letters ON the fridge.

Now that she's a bit older, we spell words on the fridge using the magnetic letters (to do this you have to use words that only have one of each letter). I like that it gives different sounds if a letter makes more than one sound. For instance - "C says 'k' and C says 's'..."

Recommend! Definitely a great teaching toy and fun at the same time. Little one started knowing ABC at around 18 months. I don't know how much this toy contributed on the overall fast learning outcome, but definitely helped in the process since little one played with this quite alot! One thing to keep in mind as a WARNING: if you have stainless steel fridge, think twice before purchasing. Because it might leave you scratch mark since little one will move the letters and unit around. As an alternative, you can also put it on the side of the fridge if you have plastic side like we do.

I bought this learning toy as a recommendation from a friend. She said that her kids all used this and knew their alphabets (could read and recognize) by the time they were 1.5 years old. I didn't have quite the same experience with my child. Which is fine... each child is different. Mine just has a passing interest in it from time to time. I'm kind of wishing I got the non-magnetic version of this. When I told my friend how much I had spent on this, she thought I was nuts. She said it was like $20-25 max when her kids had it. She thought I was just a poor shopper, so she started looking around online, and saw that indeed it was no longer around $25. The non-magnetic version (Leap Frog Letter FActory) is under $20 I think...basically has all of the same features and performs the same... it just won't stick to a magnetic surface. Wish I had bought that one instead.
